Magazine's Best Workplaces of 2023

TEAM & ROLE Benepass is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and scale the data platform that powers analytics, product reporting, and operational intelligence across the company. You will work on a small, high-impact data team that owns the warehouse, pipelines, transformation layer, semantic layer, and the infrastructure that makes data accessible, trustworthy, and fast. This is a hands-on senior IC role. You will own the architecture and implementation of data systems from the current 0→1 foundation to 1→N scale. You will partner with Product, Engineering, Customer Operations, GTM, and Finance to understand data needs, then design and build the pipelines, models, and platform capabilities that support those needs. You will take ownership of data quality, performance, cost, and the developer experience of everyone who works with data at Benepass. Your work enables data scientists, analysts, operators, and product teams to move fast with confidence. When this role is working, data is available when teams need it, queries run fast and stay cheap, definitions are clear and versioned, and the platform scales cleanly as the business grows. This is a force-multiplier role. You will build shared infrastructure, not one-off reports. You will balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural integrity. You will bring strong opinions on tooling, patterns, and quality, while staying pragmatic about build-vs-buy trade-offs and speed to value. YOU WILL Build and Scale the Data Platform

Own the design and implementation of Benepass's data platform: warehouse (Redshift Serverless), replication (Airbyte/DMS), orchestration, transformation (dbt), and semantic layer (Cube).

Architect data pipelines that reliably replicate production data (Aurora/RDS, application databases) into the warehouse with correct handling of PII, multi-tenancy, and data residency constraints.

Maintain and evolve orchestration and job scheduling infrastructure so pipelines run reliably, recover gracefully from failures, and surface clear observability when things break.

Design the platform for performance and cost: query patterns, materialization strategies, incremental models, partitioning, and warehouse scaling/tuning.

Make pragmatic build-vs-buy decisions; favor leverage and speed over custom solutions where mature tooling exists.

Own Data Quality, Governance, and Correctness

Build data quality checks, automated testing, and validation into every pipeline and model so bad data gets caught before it reaches stakeholders.

Define and enforce patterns for data grain, slowly changing dimensions, multi-tenant access controls, and row-level security so financial and benefits data stays correct under scrutiny.

Work with Engineering on source data contracts, instrumentation gaps, and schema evolution so upstream changes don't break downstream reporting.

Maintain clear lineage, documentation, and metadata so people know where data comes from, what it means, and when it was last refreshed.

Partner with Security and Compliance on data residency, encryption, access controls, and audit requirements for regulated data.

Enable Self-Service Analytics and Product Reporting

Design and build dbt models (staging through marts) that codify business logic, dimensional models, and metrics in version-controlled SQL.

Author and maintain Cube models and measures so governed metrics serve cleanly into BI tools (Metabase, Looker, etc.), product reporting surfaces, and internal dashboards.

Implement row-level security patterns in Cube so multi-tenant data stays isolated and access controls reflect the business model.

Optimize for query speed: pre-aggregations, caching strategies, and materialized views that let stakeholders query large datasets interactively.

Provide clear paths for analysts and data scientists to extend models, write safe queries, and build new reports without waiting for engineering.

Partner Across The Company To Deliver Data Solutions Product & Engineering

Work with Product to understand data needs for internal tools, customer-facing reporting, and product analytics.

Partner with Engineering (Core Services, Client Apps, Platform) to instrument events, define schemas, and close gaps where product data doesn't land cleanly in the warehouse.

Collaborate on production pipelines that power product features: reporting surfaces, usage dashboards, and data-driven workflows.

Customer Operations, GTM, and Finance

Support Customer Operations with data for implementation health, claims/CX metrics, utilization, and operational quality.

Provide GTM/Sales with pipeline, conversion, and retention data that joins Salesforce with product usage and warehouse data.

Work with Finance on revenue, margin, billing, and financial reporting requirements; ensure financial data is reconcilable and audit-ready.

Data Scientists and Analysts

Build the foundation analysts and data scientists depend on: clean staging models, dimensional marts, and governed metrics.

Provide documentation, training, and support so engineers and analysts can extend models and write queries safely.

Collaborate on complex analyses where data engineering work unlocks science or speeds decision-making.

Drive Platform Reliability, Performance, And Developer Experience

Own the end-to-end reliability of data pipelines: monitoring, alerting, incident response, and post-mortems when things break.

Improve query performance and cost: identify slow queries, optimize models, tune warehouse configuration, and right-size resources.

Build tooling and automation that reduces toil: deployment workflows, testing frameworks, data refresh triggers, and observability.

Maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and onboarding materials so the platform is accessible to new team members and partners.

Introduce new tools and patterns when they compound platform leverage; balance experimentation with production stability.

Shape the Data Platform Roadmap

Identify architectural gaps, technical debt, and scaling bottlenecks; propose solutions with clear trade-offs and sequencing.

Lead the evaluation and adoption of new platform capabilities: real-time data, streaming pipelines, CDC patterns, data catalogs, or next-generation BI/semantic layers.

Advocate for platform investments that multiply team impact: better observability, faster development cycles, cleaner abstractions, and lower operational overhead.

Partner with the Platform lead to align data infrastructure with broader AWS/Kubernetes/infra patterns and security posture.

About You A Senior Data Platform Builder

You've built data platforms from the ground up or scaled them through significant growth.

You write production-quality SQL and Python; you're fluent in modern data stacks (warehouse, orchestration, transformation, BI/semantic layers).

You have strong opinions on data modeling, testing, and quality, with pragmatism about when to cut scope and ship.

You design systems for correctness first, then performance, then cost; you care deeply about data integrity in regulated domains.

You ship incremental value while keeping long-term architecture coherent.

A Technical Leader and Force Multiplier

You operate at a senior IC level (P4): you take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive them to durable solutions.

You partner across Product, Engineering, Customer Operations, GTM, and Finance without needing a formal PM or project manager.

You mentor data scientists, analysts, and engineers; you raise the bar for how the company thinks about data.

You make build-vs-buy decisions that favor leverage and team velocity.

You communicate technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and advocate for platform investments that compound.

Requirements

5+ years of data engineering experience, with growing ownership of platform architecture, data pipelines, and data quality.

Strong SQL and Python; experience building production data pipelines on modern data stacks.

Hands-on experience with data warehouses (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery) and transformation frameworks (dbt).

Experience building and maintaining data replication pipelines (CDC, DMS, Airbyte, Fivetran, or similar).

Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, data grain, slowly changing dimensions, and data quality patterns.

Experience with semantic layers or metrics platforms (Cube, LookML, MetricFlow) and how they serve governed metrics into BI tools.

Comfort with AWS data services (RDS, S3, Redshift, DMS, Lambda) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred).

Experience working with PII, multi-tenant data, row-level security, and compliance requirements in regulated domains (fintech, healthcare, benefits).

Clear written and verbal communication; you can explain technical decisions to stakeholders across the company.

Fit with a high-ownership, high-trust culture. We hire for skill and for how people work with others.

Nice to have

Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, Mage).

Real-time data, streaming pipelines, or CDC patterns (Kafka, Kinesis, Debezium).

BI tools (Metabase, Looker, Omni, Superset, Tableau).

Data observability and cataloging tools (Monte Carlo, Great Expectations, Atlan).

Fintech, payments, benefits, or healthcare domains where data correctness and compliance are critical.

Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or containerized data workloads.

Exposure to data science workflows: feature engineering, experimentation platforms, or ML pipelines.

OUR TECHNOLOGY AND STACK AWS (Aurora/RDS, DMS, Redshift Serverless, S3, Lambda), dbt, Cube, Airbyte, Python, SQL, Metabase, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes. About Eve Eve is redefining legal technology for plaintiff law firms, and we're building the team that will take us there. We help firms handle more cases, recover more for clients, and grow with AI that works across every stage of a case, from intake through resolution. The next generation of great plaintiff firms will be AI-Native, and Eve is how they get there. But what makes Eve different isn't just the product. It's how we build it. If you're someone who takes ownership, stays curious, and wants to build AI that's already changing how law is practiced, this is where you belong.
Product-market fit: Eve is trusted by over 1000+ law firms, and we’re growing fast. Backed by top investors: We’ve raised over $160M from world-class partners including Spark Capital, Andreessen Horowitz(A16z), Menlo Ventures, and Lightspeed. Built by a world-class team: Engineers, designers, and operators from places like Scale, Meta, Airbnb, Cruise, Square, Rubrik, and Lyft are building Eve from the ground up. AI-Native from day one: We’re on the bleeding edge of AI, collaborating directly with teams at OpenAI and Anthropic to build best-in-class AI workflows tailored for legal work. Explosive growth: We are growing 2X revenue Quarter over Quarter.

The Role
Eve is doubling revenue quarter over quarter, and the platform is being built to keep pace. A medallion architecture is in place on a Terraform-managed Snowflake footprint. Most of what goes on top is still ahead: ingestion and orchestration built for the volume coming, reliability practice, the access and governance model, and the standards every contributor works inside. The data spans product usage, case and firm data, and every go-to-market system Eve runs on. Analytics engineers and business analysts build models and reporting on top of it, AI agents query it directly, and leadership makes calls on it weekly. When a pipeline fails quietly, all three inherit the mistake. You'll own the pipelines carrying all of that, end to end, from an ambiguous ask through to production. Moving nightly rebuilds onto incremental patterns. Deciding how a new source gets ingested and what happens when it changes shape. Building the alerting that catches a broken model before anyone downstream does, and being the one who picks it up when it breaks. You'll have real say in how the platform gets built. You'll work on our central team and report to the Head of Data Engineering, who reports directly to the CEO. Data is a first-class function at Eve and the fuel to drive our future growth.
What You'll Do

Build and run the platform

Own ingestion through Fivetran, third-party connectors, and custom extraction where no connector exists

Own orchestration across dbt platform and GitHub Actions, own materialization strategy and model performance, move critical models off nightly full rebuilds onto incremental patterns, and cut latency where decisions are waiting on stale data

Build source-schema change detection, so an upstream field change surfaces as an alert before it reaches a report

Stand up observability: freshness SLAs on critical tables, alerting on failure and drift, and an incident path with clear ownership

Be a first responder when pipelines break, and drive the fix upstream so the same failure doesn't recur

Manage pipeline compute cost, and make the tradeoffs between freshness and spend explicit rather than accidental

Share Snowflake administration: implementing the role-based access model, security and network policies, data masking and PII controls, and storage organization

Extend the medallion architecture and the Terraform-managed footprint, including full separation of development and production

Contribute to the foundational modeling layer the Analytics Engineers build on: source-to-staging patterns, conformed dimensions, shared entities, and SCD patterns that make history reliable

Raise the bar

Build and maintain the development environments and CI that let analysts contribute models safely, and review their contributions so more of the company can build on the foundation

Build the tooling and setup that gets a new engineer or analyst productive in days, not weeks

Administer the data tooling stack: access, integrations, and the connective work between systems

Use AI-assisted development as part of how you work: Claude Code skills, agents, and evals, held to the same review bar as anything else

Document as you build. If it isn't written down, it isn't done

What We're Looking For

5+ years in data engineering, owning production systems other people depended on

Strong Python and SQL, with production experience across ingestion (Fivetran or similar), orchestration (dbt platform, GitHub Actions, or Airflow), and cloud infrastructure

Solid Snowflake: access control, warehouse sizing, query performance, and cost management

Practical dbt: incremental models, testing, macros, and a git-based workflow with CI. Experience building SCD tables from multiple sources

Comfort in a Terraform-managed environment. Infrastructure changes go through code review here, not the Snowflake console

You've built reliability practice where none existed: alerting, freshness SLAs, incident response, schema change detection

Proficiency with AI-assisted development such as Claude Code, including agentic pipeline design and skill-based workflows, and comfort integrating tools via MCP servers

Able to tell a stakeholder what broke, what it affected, and when it'll be fixed, without the jargon

Comfort building where the playbook doesn't exist yet

Nice to haves:

Experience in a regulated or high-sensitivity data environment (legal, healthcare, financial services)

Experience with streaming or near-real-time ingestion, and knowing when it isn't worth it

Exposure to Iceberg, Parquet, or unstructured data at scale

B2B SaaS, especially selling to small and mid-sized businesses or professional services firms

Senior Data Engineer - Snowflake & Airflow

Build the food intelligence layer at WISEcode. Most people have no real way to know what's in their food or what it does to them. The information is scattered, inconsistent, and written to sell rather than to inform. WISEcode exists to change that: to give people a source they can actually trust, and the freedom to decide for themselves once they have it. Getting there takes more than a better app. It takes a system underneath that turns fragmented food data into answers that hold up: consistent, explainable, and the same whether they reach a parent scanning a label, a brand seeking verification, or an institution making decisions at scale. That system is what we are building, and it is the reason the work compounds instead of resetting with every new product. The Role We are hiring a Software Developer & Engineer to work as a senior individual contributor, serving as the second engineer on The Pantry, our new data lakehouse (DuckLake on S3 Parquet, Postgres catalog, Prefect orchestration, Python throughout) . You will work alongside our Data team, combining hands-on implementation with platform and data architecture design in an early-stage environment where the shape of the work is still yours to define. You bring 3+ years of experience in a similar role, along with real comfort with ambiguity and pace. What you get in return is a problem that matters and the room to shape how it gets solved. Key Responsibilities

Lakehouse Architecture & Implementation: Own end-to-end implementation and collaborate on data/platform architecture alongside Nicholas.

Source Ingestion: Build and establish patterns for a variety of sources including APIs, text from public sources, and external databases.

Identity & Entity Resolution: Merge the many records we collect for each product, across retailers and dates, into one trustworthy published record. Decide which source wins on each disagreement, and keep every original record so each published value can be traced to its source.

Pipeline Consolidation & Enrichment: Consolidate existing food enrichment pipelines down to a single pipeline in collaboration with Kevin's team.

Downstream Connectors: Build robust connectors to feed collapsed food data to WISE Intel and the consumer app.

Operational Discipline & Configuration: Maintain strict fail-fast config discipline (magic values in config files; early loud failures for missing settings).

Data Quality & Reporting: Establish ingest capabilities and quality reporting for Data Assembly readiness.

Technical Documentation: Write plain, short, dated decision records prior to code implementation.

Technical Skills

Languages: Native proficiency in Python and SQL.

Storage & Query Engines: DuckDB, DuckLake, S3 Parquet.

Databases: Postgres, DynamoDB (state management).

Orchestration & Frameworks: Prefect, Kubernetes/Fargate job runners; familiarity with dbt, Dagster, or Airflow.

AWS Infrastructure: S3, ECS, Lambda, EventBridge, SNS, Terraform, IAM.

Reporting & Data Modeling: Lakehouse, analytic/dimension design; Quarto reporting; Medallion architecture (bronze/clean), star schema (food sighting, ingredient, nutrient, provenance).

CI/CD: github actions

Minimum Qualifications

3+ years of experience in a similar role

Proven track record of designing and shipping a lakehouse or data warehouse from scratch, and operating it for at least one year in production.

Demonstrated experience treating data identity and entity resolution as first-class architectural questions.

Experience running batch data pipelines that invoke paid cloud/third-party APIs at scale with strict cost efficiency and budget controls.

Experience pairing daily with other engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience making architectural trade-offs between lightweight/embedded query engines (e.g., DuckDB) versus distributed systems (Spark, Databricks, Snowflake).

Familiarity with data acquisition methods (e.g., web scraping, OCR API integration).

Note: Food or nutrition domain knowledge, deep Spark/Databricks/Snowflake experience, and people management experience are explicitly NOT required for this role.

Compensation Competitive base, bonus, and meaningful equity. Details shared in the hiring process. Benefits

Location: Fully remote

Unlimited PTO & Paid Holidays: Unlimited time off and 10 paid holidays

Financial Wellness: 401(k) with a 4% company match, immediately vested

Health Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and additional ancillary coverage.

100% coverage for employees, with 80% covered for dependents

100% employer paid STD, LTD, Identity Theft, and Life insurance

FSA and HSA plans available, for our HSA:

$200/mo contributions for Employee plans

$400/mo contributions for Employee + Dependent plans

Why WISEcode We are building the layer that food decisions will run on. That is quiet, compounding work: broadening coverage, sharpening precision, and making every output repeatable and defensible. We value transparency, rigor, and respect for the person making the decision, who deserves clear information and the freedom to reach their own conclusion. Come in early enough and you help shape how this system works instead of operating inside one someone else already designed. Research shows that some groups hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. If you’re excited about this role but don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply. At WISEcode, we value diverse experiences, transferable skills, and the unique strengths each person brings. WISEcode is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Senior Data Engineer II, AI Native

EMPLOYER IS A CONTRACTOR FOR THE U.S. GOVERNMENT. THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE U.S. CITIZENSHIP.

Role Description

This is a forward-deployed engineering role. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with mission heroes: the users, operators, and program engineers who run real workloads in real DoD environments. You'll help take UDS Data Capability from "deployable" to "running in production under classification." You will deploy, integrate, and operate our data stack in the mission hero's environment alongside senior engineers, then carry what you learn back into the product so the next engagement is easier.
The scope of this work varies by engagement. Some programs require standing up a governed data platform to centralize sensor or operational data from known sources, where the problem is well-defined and the priority is building and shipping. Others involve consolidating data across hundreds of interconnected government systems of record with overlapping schemas, deeply interdependent data flows, and significant architectural complexity. You should be comfortable building independently against defined problems and growing into more ambiguous, complex engagements over time.
Forward-deployed means aligned with the mission hero, not always on a plane. Most of the work is remote. You'll travel to sites when the engagement calls for it: initial standup, integration work, incident response, training and knowledge transfer. The rest of the time, you'll be on a video call or in a shared chat with that same mission hero. The role is defined by the relationship with the mission hero, not by where you sit.
You are a data engineer who can build across the breadth of a data platform (storage, ingestion, streaming, governance, and access) and deliver working solutions in constrained, mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

Deploy and configure UDS Data Capability in the mission hero's environment. Stand up the UDS Store (Iceberg, Rook/Ceph, pgvector, Postgres), wire up UDS Transit for air-gap data movement, configure UDS Govern policies (Pepr/Lula), and integrate UDS Connect (Strimzi/Kafka) where streaming or legacy connectors are required.

Build and support integrations with existing mission systems. Connect UDS Data Capability to legacy databases, flat-file drops, SOAP/REST endpoints, message buses, existing object storage, and identity providers (Keycloak, mission-side SSO). Prior experience integrating with these types of systems is more relevant than experience building on them.

Contribute to mapping complex data landscapes. Some engagements involve hundreds of interconnected systems of record with overlapping schemas and deeply interdependent data flows. You'll help trace how data moves across systems and identify dependencies alongside senior engineers and government stakeholders.

Build pipelines that move data through classification boundaries, including ingestion, transformation, catalog registration, model/dataset packaging via Zarf, cross-domain transit, and eventual consistency across DDIL conditions.

Implement data provenance, lineage, and governance practices. Track where data came from, how it transformed, and who can access it.

Operate what you deploy. Day-2 ownership includes capacity, performance, backup/restore (Velero), observability (Vector/Loki), incident response, and upgrade paths. Hand off to the mission hero's ops team once it's stable.

Generate accreditation artifacts, including STIG evidence, cATO documentation, FIPS validation notes, and policy mappings. You produce the evidence the mission hero's ISSM/ISSO needs to run this in IL4/IL5.

Contribute field feedback back to product and engineering. File issues, write postmortems, and surface what's working and what's breaking in the mission environment.

Support training and knowledge transfer. Contribute to runbooks, architecture docs, and working sessions that leave the mission hero's team self-sufficient.

Preferred Locations: Colorado Springs, CO or Florida Space Coast (Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach / Melbourne). Remote candidates will be considered, but local presence is strongly preferred.
Travel Expectations: Candidates based in Colorado Springs or the Florida Space Coast can expect on-site presence 1-2 days per week. Remote candidates should expect to travel to the engagement site for approximately one week every 4-6 weeks.
The listed responsibilities are not exhaustive and additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the evolving needs of the organization. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is able to adapt and take on new responsibilities as they arise.

Required Qualifications

Data engineering breadth

Unstructured data at scale. Experience storing and querying large unstructured datasets using data lake architectures. Spark experience preferred.

Streaming & integration. Experience with stream processing infrastructure (Kafka, Redpanda, Flink, or equivalent) and bridging data from heterogeneous sources into modern pipelines.

Data warehousing. Open-source data warehousing platform experience. These environments do not support proprietary platforms, so you need to be comfortable building without them.

Pipelines & orchestration. Airflow, Dagster, Argo Workflows, or similar. Comfort building, scheduling, monitoring, and recovering production data pipelines.

Data modeling & SQL. Fluent in SQL. Comfortable designing schemas for both analytical and operational workloads.

Open-source orientation. You are comfortable building on open-source tooling and contributing back to it.
What "forward-deployed" requires

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. Clearance sponsorship available for the right candidate.

Comfort working directly with mission heroes and government stakeholders. Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Comfort with periodic on-site work, sometimes for days at a stretch, and equal comfort working remotely.

Bias toward delivery. Preference for shipping a working integration over perfecting a design that hasn't met a real workload.

Self-direction. You will encounter environments and problems that are not yet documented and will need to work through them independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Data provenance, lineage, and governance. Experience with lineage tracking, data catalogs, provenance systems, or governance frameworks. Depth here will be weighted heavily.

DoD or defense program experience.

Active Secret clearance (or higher).

Lakehouse & storage: Apache Iceberg (or Delta/Hudi), object storage (Ceph/S3-compatible), Postgres (including extensions like pgvector), columnar/OLAP engines (Trino, DuckDB, ClickHouse, Spark SQL).

Change Data Capture: Debezium or similar CDC patterns.

Governance, catalog & access: REST catalogs (Iceberg REST, Polaris/Gravitino/Nessie family), ABAC/RBAC patterns, OIDC/OAuth, lineage and audit.

Kubernetes awareness. Deep K8s expertise is not required; general familiarity with deployments, operators, and how applications run on Kubernetes is valuable.

Linux fundamentals, container runtime behavior, networking, TLS, secrets management.

IaC (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar) and GitOps patterns (Flux, ArgoCD).

Familiarity with the CNCF ecosystem, including the distinction between foundation projects and single-vendor projects.

AI/ML awareness. General understanding of how data infrastructure supports model training, versioning, provenance, and AI operations.

Familiarity with Air Force or Space Force systems of record (e.g., MILPDS, ARMS) and how data flows between them.

You do not need to meet every preferred qualification. You do need to be credible across the core data engineering requirements.
Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience. Compensation ranges are established using national benchmarking data and apply across all geographic locations within the United States.

What You'll Build

The data asset registry, and the control plane that grows around it, with the data catalog as its primary interface: the source of truth for asset state, ownership, and metadata enrichment.

The contract model, and the libraries and CI modules other teams consume so contracts, compliance rules, and breaking changes are checked automatically.

The emission framework that lakehouse and warehouse pipelines instrument against, and the work of getting those pipelines onto it, so lineage, freshness, and completeness are captured rather than assembled by hand.

The data quality framework: where checks run, what a failure blocks, and the limits of what stewards can express in a rule.

Impact analysis over the lineage graph that supports regulatory requests like deletion, purpose limitation, and subject access.

Tooling data stewards use to curate at volume and work remediation, plus campaign instrumentation so coverage and blockers stay visible.

Compliance automation: retention and residency controls, evidence that those controls operated, and contract-driven access controls built with our security team, who own PII classification.

What We're Looking For

You have built a control plane or policy engine that applies authoritative governance decisions across an organization rather than leaving each team to re-implement them, and you operated it in production.

You can explain what a failed check does to downstream consumers and backfills, because you have had to design that behavior in CI and in the write path.

You treat the engineers and stewards who use your platform as customers, and you have driven adoption of something that constrained them without authority over them.

You have decided what to build, extend, and buy on a platform with a multi-year arc, and can walk through a call you got wrong.

You have built controls that generate their own evidence, rather than stitching evidence together for auditors after the fact.

Deep in Python, proficient in Java, and fluent in infrastructure as code.

8+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering, including substantial recent work on metadata, data quality, governance, or developer platforms.

Nice-To-Haves

Experience extending a metadata platform in production, whether custom plugins, APIs, or model changes. We run DataHub Cloud.

Experience working with column-level lineage at scale, with OpenLineage or otherwise.

Experience working with Iceberg, Snowflake, Airflow, Kafka, Flink, Spark, or Kubernetes in production.

Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., SOX, PCI-DSS).

Experience working in payments or card issuing.

Compensation And Benefits Marqeta calibrates pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.

Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA

Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

Visit this page or consult with a recruiter to determine which tier would be applicable to you. When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this full-time position is:

National: 200,500 - 250,600

Premium: 210,200 - 262,800

Premium Plus: 220,000 - 275,000

We also believe in recognizing the contributions of our people. That's why we award annual bonuses to eligible employees, rewarding both individual performance and the success of the entire company. Along with monetary compensation, Marqeta currently offers

Multiple health insurance options

Flexible time off – take what you need

Retirement savings program with company contribution and after tax contributions

Equity in a publicly-traded company and an Employee Stock Purchase Program

Family-forming benefits, fertility support and generous parental leave base salary top-up

Free therapy sessions, financial and professional coaching, and legal advice

Monthly stipend to support our remote work model

Annual “development dollars” to support our people growth and development

About Marqeta Marqeta is on a mission to change the way money moves.
