Technical Project Manager

About Tribes

Tribes Digital is a UK-based digital technology company building high-quality web and app products for ambitious clients. We work across strategy, design, and engineering, and we move fast. Our Bucharest team is growing and sits at the centre of how we deliver: close to the work, close to the client, and expected to lead.

We're an AI-first team. That means we invest in the best tooling, we expect people to use it, and we actively look for ways to work smarter. If you're still doing manually what a well-prompted model could do in seconds, we'll notice.

The role

We're looking for a Technical Project Manager who leads from the front. You won't be waiting to be told what to do — you'll be the one in the room (or on the call) setting the agenda, shaping the brief, and driving delivery. You'll own a portfolio of concurrent client engagements end-to-end, acting as the commercial and delivery nerve centre across everything you touch.

This is not a reporting role. If you're more comfortable updating a RAG status than challenging a client on scope creep, this isn't the right fit. We need someone who is sharp, commercially switched-on, and genuinely invested in making projects land.

What you'll do

  • Run client discovery and requirements sessions with authority — you facilitate, you challenge, you synthesise, and you leave with everything the team needs to move
  • Own the client relationship throughout delivery: proactive, direct, and always one step ahead of what they're going to ask next
  • Translate complex stakeholder requirements into clear, developer-ready specifications and prioritised backlog items — no ambiguity, no hand-holding required from engineering
  • Serve as the commercial anchor on every project: monitor scope, track budget burn, identify variances early, and raise Change Requests s before costs run away
  • Hold the line on scope — spot creep the moment it starts, frame the commercial conversation with the client, and protect the team's time
  • Drive backlog refinement and sprint planning alongside engineering leads, keeping delivery on track without micromanaging
  • Produce concise, actionable status reporting for senior stakeholders — not walls of text, but the signal they need to make decisions
  • Identify and escalate delivery risks before they become problems, not after
  • Challenge process gaps and inefficiencies when you see them, and bring solutions not just observations

What we're looking for

  • A proven track record delivering technical projects in a client-facing environment — agency, consultancy  or SaaS background preferred
  • Strong commercial instincts: you understand margin, scope, and what a change request actually means for the business
  • Confident facilitating remote workshops and discovery sessions with senior client stakeholders
  • Comfortable operating across multiple projects simultaneously without losing grip on any of them
  • Comfortable using project management tools and utilising AI workflows to maximise efficiency
  • Technically literate enough to hold your own with engineering teams and translate between client and code.
  • Technical understanding of modern web architectures, mobile app development lifecycle, and API integrations — enabling you to translate complex technical constraints into actionable product requirements, evaluate integration feasibility, and partner effectively with engineering teams
  • A natural communicator who can adapt register depending on whether you're in a boardroom or a stand-up
  • Self-directed — you spot the gap, you fill it, you move on

The kind of person we don't want

Someone who waits for a brief before they start thinking. Someone whose instinct is to report a risk rather than manage it. Someone who needs a lot of hand-holding to get going on a new engagement.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Remote-first with access to our Bucharest office whenever you need it
  • The latest AI tools and software — we invest in tooling so you can do your best work
  • A genuinely collaborative, low-ego team that takes the work seriously but not itself
  • Real influence over how delivery works as we grow — this is not a role where you inherit someone else's process and follow it forever
  • A direct line to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape how we scale
