About The Role

As a Fullstack Engineer within our Contributor Success team at GitLab, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the effectiveness and success of our vibrant contributor community. Your primary focus will be to drive initiatives that empower community members to contribute effectively to GitLab’s open source projects, supporting programs such as Education, Open Source, AI tooling, and Contributor Success. You will lead project planning, coach cohorts of contributors, and collaborate closely with internal teams and external community members to track and accelerate contributions. Your work will have a direct impact on how thousands of developers engage with GitLab, fostering a thriving, inclusive, and productive community. Additionally, you will have opportunities to travel, onboard new contributors, and guide them through contribution programs, combining your technical expertise with community leadership in a remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in developing with Ruby and JavaScript, demonstrating strong fullstack engineering skills
  • Experience with Git and source control systems, including contribution workflows
  • Active involvement in open source communities, with contributions to recognized projects
  • Ability to coach and mentor community members on technical and non-technical topics
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and customer interaction experience
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing projects independently
  • Comfortable working in a remote, asynchronous environment with distributed teams
  • Openness to diverse backgrounds and transferable skills, aligned with GitLab’s inclusive culture

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage contributor success initiatives to enhance community engagement and contribution output
  • Coach and support cohorts of community members, providing both technical guidance and mentorship
  • Track, analyze, and report on community contributions using relevant metrics to identify areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with the Programs team to support initiatives related to Education, Open Source, AI tooling, and contributor programs
  • Advocate for community feedback-driven improvements to continually enhance the contributor experience
  • Participate as a core member of GitLab’s merge request coaching team, specializing in areas such as development, testing, or documentation
  • Facilitate Contributor Success team stand-ups and adopt agile processes to ensure project alignment and delivery
  • Travel to customer sites to onboard new contributors and foster deeper engagement with GitLab’s community
