About The Role Turnitin is seeking an experienced Principal Frontend Software Engineer to join our remote team in the United States. This role is ideal for a seasoned frontend developer with a deep understanding of modern frontend frameworks and technologies, including web components, React, Angular, and microfrontends. As a key contributor, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, reusable, and high-performance web components that enhance our award-winning educational platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams comprising backend engineers, product managers, and designers to craft intuitive user interfaces that meet the needs of educators and students worldwide. Your expertise will directly influence the user experience of both existing and new applications, ensuring they are accessible, responsive, and optimized for performance. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and shape the future of Turnitin’s frontend architecture in a collaborative and innovative environment. Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in frontend development, including at least 2 years working with web components, Angular, React, and microfrontends.
• Proven experience in building and maintaining reusable libraries and design systems used across multiple projects.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, including advanced types, generics, and scalable code practices.
• Extensive knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
• Hands-on experience with unit testing and integration testing frameworks such as Jest and React Testing Library.
• Strong debugging skills for browser issues and performance optimization.
• Understanding of frontend performance best practices and optimization techniques.
• Experience with modern build tools like esbuild, Rollup, or Vite.
• Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design principles.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across different time zones.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Experience integrating frontend components into CI/CD pipelines, especially with GitHub Actions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, reusable, and scalable web components utilizing frameworks such as Stencil.js, TypeScript, Angular, and React.
• Establish and enforce best practices for system architecture, including accessibility compliance, performance optimization, and responsive design.
• Ensure seamless integration of web components into various applications, particularly within Angular and React projects.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code adhering to modern coding standards.
• Create comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure component reliability and performance.
• Mentor and guide junior frontend engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Continuously optimize frontend application performance through code improvements and best practices.
• Develop detailed documentation for reusable components to facilitate ease of use and maintenance.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging frontend technologies and incorporate innovative solutions into development processes.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to streamline CI/CD workflows for frontend deployment.
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings to align on project goals and deliverables.
