About The Role The Lead Software Developer at Lumen plays a pivotal role in shaping our software development lifecycle, from coding to support. This position requires a deep understanding of automation tools for developing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing solutions that leverage the latest technologies and services to automate all aspects of software deployment and application lifecycle management. A passion for software automation and a commitment to quality are essential. The role involves collaborating with key stakeholders across engineering, including product owners, developers, and testers, to deliver exceptional user experiences and optimize business and technical processes. The Lead Software Developer will translate product visions and requirements into tangible solutions, ensuring seamless integration and operational excellence. This is a remote position based within the United States, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from home. Qualifications

  • US citizenship and residence within the United States
  • Minimum of 8+ years of professional experience with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum of 6+ years of professional experience with a Master's Degree or equivalent education and experience
  • At least 5 years of overall professional software development experience
  • Experience in API development using Java Microservices and Spring Boot framework
  • Proficiency in developing REST APIs within microservice architecture
  • Experience with RDBMS such as Oracle, MySQL, and SQL, as well as NoSQL databases
  • Hands-on experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub and Jenkins
  • Experience deploying applications to Kubernetes and Docker environments
  • Preferred experience with Confluent Kafka, GraphQL, and Python development
  • Knowledge of Agile/SCRUM methodologies and best practices
  • Certifications in AWS or related cloud technologies are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for portal services, troubleshooting and resolving issues in test and production environments
  • Lead root cause analysis and post-mortem processes to facilitate continuous improvement
  • Monitor system performance proactively, identifying bottlenecks or degradation and implementing tuning strategies across applications, databases, and infrastructure
  • Drive initiatives to enhance latency, throughput, and resource utilization
  • Design and maintain dashboards, alerts, and metrics using monitoring tools such as CloudWatch and Grafana to ensure comprehensive system health coverage
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools for deployment, scaling, and recovery processes
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform to manage AWS resources effectively
  • Automate routine operational tasks to improve efficiency and minimize human error
  • Participate in reliability reviews and advocate for resilient, fault-tolerant architecture designs
  • Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, and product teams to align reliability and operational goals
  • Document processes, runbooks, and best practices for knowledge sharing and future reference
  • Mentor team members and provide guidance on reliability, automation, and operational excellence
  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in software engineering to continually enhance system capabilities
