About the Opportunity
The Engineering Manager will lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for delivering end-to-end functionality of core product systems and user experiences. This role guides technical execution, fosters engineer growth, and ensures sound technical decisions that support long-term product success. The position requires balancing technical leadership with people management, driving architectural direction, and maintaining a high-performing team culture. The manager will also collaborate across teams to align priorities and deliver impactful solutions.
Responsibilities
- Own the team’s technical outcomes by facilitating key technical discussions and surfacing risks.
- Guide architectural decisions to ensure scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
- Establish standards for performance, quality, and observability across the technology stack.
- Lead technical design discussions and code reviews without direct implementation responsibility.
- Maintain strong operational practices including monitoring and incident response.
- Balance tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope with transparency.
- Support AI-enabled product features in collaboration with backend and data teams.
- Partner with Security and Compliance teams to meet regulatory and internal standards.
- Build and lead a high-performing engineering team with clear expectations and accountability.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching to foster individual growth.
- Manage hiring and retention processes for engineering talent.
- Create a team culture focused on pragmatic decisions, continuous improvement, and shared ownership.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Design to translate goals into engineering plans.
- Align stakeholders on priorities and sequencing of work.
- Own delivery outcomes across team dependencies and ambiguity.
- Work with adjacent engineering teams to manage dependencies and system coherence.
- Contribute to broader engineering initiatives through guilds and working groups.
- Advocate for the team and increase visibility of its impact within the organization.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 4 or more years in senior or staff engineering roles.
- At least 1 year in a management position.
- Experience leading engineering teams delivering production SaaS products.
- Strong technical expertise to guide architecture across frontend and backend systems.
- Proven ability to execute and deliver results in cross-functional product environments.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product and Design teams.
- Demonstrated skill in hiring, developing, and retaining engineers.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations and make pragmatic decisions.
- Experience building or operating complex, customer-facing web applications.
- Familiarity with modern frontend architectures and performance considerations.
- Experience contributing to shared platform components, developer tools, or design systems.
- Experience integrating data-driven or AI-enabled features.
