Product Designer (Maternity Cover)
We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer to join our team and own the design process from discovery through to delivery.
Contract: Fixed Term, part-time
Level: Mid to Senior
Duration: 2.5 days a week for 12 months
Start date: End of April 2026
Location: Fully remote
Timezone requirement: GMT +/-2 hours
Salary: £30,000 to £45,000 (based on a 2.5-day working week, depending on experience)

What you will do at Oxford Abstracts💻
- Contribute to overall strategy and decision-making around product and design direction.
- Continue to improve the quality of user experience and design at Oxford Abstracts.
- Create, collaborate, and iterate on flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals.
- Support in planning, running and analysing user research in partnership with our researcher.
- Work closely with our product manager and engineering team to ship impactful features.
- Support the delivery of existing designs through development.
- Document decisions, processes, and learnings to ensure a smooth handover.
Some projects that you could work on 🎨
We’re building a product that aims to be the only tool needed to run an academic conference, which means the work is varied and always evolving. Some of the projects you could work on include:
- Improving the usability of our program builder
- Extending existing user types and permissions
- Modernising legacy features
- Designing solutions in response to roadmap priorities and user needs
What you’ll need ✅
- 5+ years of product design experience
- A portfolio showcasing product design work
- The ability to take ownership of end-to-end design processes
- Experience using Figma
- Excellent communication skills
- A love of problem-solving
- The ability to balance customer needs, business impact, and technical feasibility
- A collaborative mindset and confidence working in cross-functional teams
- Availability to work UK hours
Nice to haves ✨
- Experience working in a remote environment
- Experience working as the sole designer within a small team
- Familiarity with Tailwind UI
