We’re supporting an innovative start-up team developing a cutting-edge software product in the research space. We’re looking for an AI Engineer with strong experience in Python, Gen AI & Agentic Workflows. This is a remote role, giving you autonomy while you own the end-to-end delivery of Gen AI within the business. This role as the option of permanent after the contract ends, offering long term stability as a core team member.

What You’ll Be Doing as an Senior/Lead AI Engineer, Contract | Python, LLM, Agentic Workflows | Start-up, SaaS Company | EUR400-500 per day | 3 Months Initial Contract | Fully Remote (Spain/Portugal)

• Redesign and optimize the existing RAG stack, including workflows for analysing both quantitative (tabular) survey data and unstructured text.
• Prototype, validate, and deploy LLM-based modules such as advanced Q&A over survey projects, AI-driven report generation, and automated data-cleaning assistants.
• Design schemas and transformations to standardize heterogeneous survey exports (Likert, single-select, ranking, etc.) into analysis-ready formats; implement services to automatically infer question metadata.
• Architect a secure, client-specific vector and structured data store capable of ingesting six years of mixed-media research assets while enabling low-latency querying.
• Implement automated evaluation pipelines (offline and online), guardrails, prompt management, and CI/CD workflows for models; manage observability, drift detection, and rollback strategies.
• Collaborate with full-stack engineers to integrate AI microservices; actively contribute to peer reviews, demos, and retrospectives to foster continuous team learning.

• Multiple years of hands-on experience with Python and machine learning, or equivalent expertise demonstrated through strong personal projects.
• Proficiency with at least one modern LLM or information retrieval framework (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, Haystack).
• Strong foundations in data wrangling, SQL/NoSQL databases, and writing clean, well-tested code.
• Working knowledge of Docker or cloud-based deployment, with motivation to deepen MLOps expertise.
• Genuine curiosity about large language models and the ability to translate research into practical, working solutions.
• Clear, effective communicator in English with experience collaborating in distributed teams.

Nice to Have:

• Experience working with quantitative survey data, natural language processing (NLP), or vector databases.
• Hands-on exposure to tools and frameworks such as Hugging Face Transformers, Faiss, Weaviate, or Postgres with pgvector.
• Understanding of statistical methods commonly used in market research, including weighting and significance testing.
• Familiarity with European data privacy regulations and compliance requirements.
