Contract SQL Developer
£400 per day | Fully Remote | Initial contract until 31st December 2026 | Extensions highly likely
We are looking for an experienced Contract SQL Developer to join a highly established technology environment, working on business-critical, data-intensive systems.
This is a hands-on SQL development role requiring someone with excellent SQL Server and T-SQL skills who is comfortable working with complex datasets, stored procedures and performance-sensitive applications.
The initial contract will run until the end of 2026, with further extensions highly likely.
The Role
You'll work within an established engineering environment, helping develop, maintain and optimise SQL-based solutions supporting high-volume systems.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing and maintaining complex SQL and T-SQL solutions
- Developing and optimising stored procedures, queries and database objects
- Troubleshooting and resolving SQL performance issues
- Query optimisation and performance tuning across large datasets
- Working with existing SQL Server applications and databases
- Supporting data-intensive and business-critical systems
- Investigating existing solutions and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Working with engineering and technical teams to understand requirements and translate them into robust database solutions
- Supporting testing, validation and data quality
- Contributing to code reviews and technical discussions
- Working within established source control and development processes
- Producing clear technical documentation where required
Key Skills & Experience
The successful contractor will need strong commercial experience with:
Essential
- Excellent SQL Server development experience
- Advanced T-SQL
- Complex SQL queries
- Stored procedure development
- Query optimisation and performance tuning
- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modelling
- Experience working with large and/or complex datasets
- Ability to investigate and troubleshoot existing SQL solutions
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working independently within a remote engineering team

- GCP
- Experience migrating or integrating SQL Server workloads with modern cloud data platforms
- ETL / ELT and data pipelines
- Git / source control
- CI/CD
- Experience within high-volume, transactional or near-real-time environments
Contract Details
💰 £400 per day (Outside IR35)
🏠 Fully Remote – UK

🚀 Immediate/ASAP start preferred
This would particularly suit an experienced SQL Developer / T-SQL Developer / Database Developer who enjoys solving complex data problems and optimising SQL performance, while gaining further exposure to modern cloud technologies such as BigQuery.
The priority is excellent SQL/T-SQL capability – BigQuery experience would be highly advantageous but is not essential.
