Position Overview

The Product Manager provides leadership in strategic product marketing (market views, segmentation, and multi-generational product planning). This individual is a thought leader who performs independently and has demonstrated the ability to effectively interact and influence peers and the next level up in organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with suppliers and internally to set aggressive but fair goals around volume growth, new business pipeline performance, and material margins
  • Network high, wide, and deep at suppliers, and foster a reputation for being a collaborative problem-solver and a trusted advocate of suppliers’ best interests
  • Ensure alignment between suppliers’ and internal strategies, and promote functional relationships between organizations (i.e. commercial, marketing, supply chain)
  • Track status of distribution contracts and negotiate renewals, amendments, and new contracts, ensuring product access, operating regions, pricing mechanisms, and payment terms are acceptable
  • Collaborate internally across functions and leadership levels to solve business problems
  • Own working relationships with select key suppliers
    • Negotiate costs and logistics for products
    • Provide sales volume and pipeline updates regularly
    • Develop and implement action plans to correct sales performance gaps
    • Communicate and implement product, policy, and pricing changes
    • Hold suppliers to an acceptable level of quality and ease of doing business
    • Lead business reviews with appropriate content and cadence
    • Respond quickly and effectively to requests for quotes from commercial team
    • Drive key targets with commercial team

Performance objectives/metrics

  • Zero safety incidents
  • Drive Distribution sales volume growth for assigned suppliers
  • Maximize Distribution margin dollars for business from assigned suppliers
  • Meet supplier requirements for keeping Formerra as a distributor
  • Maintain healthy and accurate sales funnel

Qualifications: 

  • Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering preferred, but commensurate experience considered
  • Experience Requirements:
    • 5+ years product management or commercial experience, preferably in polymers 
    • Good understanding of distribution business model, focus industries, customers, products, and chemistries 
    • Good understanding of financial concepts including sales revenue, margins, and working capital 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
    • Comfort presenting in front of large audiences 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint 
    • Ability to travel 1-3 times a month 

Work Environment:

  • Physical & Social Setting:
    • Remote
  • Work Conditions: choose from one of the following options:
    • Physical Demands: Requires remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time, and frequent communication. Must be able to operate computer and other office equipment.
    • Work Hours: Standard business hours

Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel up to 75% (or as needed) for client meetings, industry events, or team gatherings.
