With over 80% of EV charging occurring at home, ChargeScape was formed by some of the world’s largest automakers (BMW, Ford, Honda, and Nissan – with more joining soon) with the mission to enable everyone to access sustainable, affordable energy from a reliable power grid.

ChargeScape’s software platform serves as the connective tissue between EV drivers and power utilities, using cloud-based commands to schedule EV charging for the most grid-friendly, low-carbon hours - all while putting money back in drivers’ wallets. Backed by a well-capitalized joint venture, we are expanding our engineering team to further build out our vehicle-grid integration platform.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a highly capable and empathetic Engineering Manager to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will play a critical role in fostering a high-performing and collaborative engineering environment. This position will be key in scaling our team's capacity by taking on direct management responsibilities for a portion of our development team, while also driving crucial partnerships with Product to ensure efficient and impactful delivery.

You will focus on the well-being and productivity of your team members, facilitate clear communication, and work hand-in-hand with our Product Management team to translate business needs into technical solutions that drive ChargeScape's mission forward.

What You'll Do:Team Leadership & Management:

• Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings with a portion of our experienced developer team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure high
• performance and engagement.
• Provide constructive feedback and facilitate performance discussions, ensuring alignment with project goals and technical standards.
• Act as a point of contact for team members, addressing concerns, unblocking issues, and fostering a positive team dynamic.
• Support onboarding and integration for new team members.

Product & Project Partnership:

• Collaborate closely with the Product Management team to clarify requirements, define user stories, and translate product vision into
• actionable engineering tasks.
• Work with the engineering team to effectively scope, estimate, and plan development work, ensuring realistic timelines and efficient resource
• allocation.
• Facilitate agile ceremonies (e.g., scoping, stand-ups, retrospectives) to maintain team rhythm and continuous improvement.
• Identify and mitigate technical and project risks, communicating proactively with stakeholders.

Technical Excellence & Delivery:

• Oversee the execution and delivery of engineering initiatives, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions across our
• stack (React, NextJS, Java, Spring Boot on AWS, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Champion engineering best practices, code quality, and technical standards within your team.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the engineering workflow.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work seamlessly with the VP of Engineering, other team leads, and cross-functional teams (Product, QA, etc.) to ensure alignment and cohesive
• delivery.
• Help foster a culture of transparent communication and shared responsibility.

What You'll Bring:

• Bilingual Leadership: Full professional proficiency in Portuguese and English. You will lead daily operations and mentorship for our Brazil-based engineering team while partnering with US-based Product and Leadership teams.
• 5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2+ years in a formal leadership or management role (e.g., Team Lead, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager)
• Proven experience managing or mentoring software developers, including a strong understanding of performance management and feedback delivery.
• Solid technical background with ability to understand and discuss architectural designs and technical challenges within our stack (React, NextJS, Java, Spring Boot, AWS, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Product Managers to define requirements, scope projects, and drive successful delivery.
• Strong understanding of agile development methodologies.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities, adapt to changing needs, and thrive in a fast-paced, remote startup environment.
• Proactive problem-solver with a focus on team empowerment and continuous improvement.

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Experience managing geographically distributed teams or contractors.
• Prior experience in a startup environment.
• Familiarity with the renewable energy or EV sectors.Compensation

• Total Compensation: Competitive salary and bonus, with a total compensation range of $160,000–$175,000 per year.
