About Amber Labs

Amber Labs is a UK-based technology consultancy delivering innovative digital transformation and technology solutions across the UK public sector.

We are passionate about creating an inclusive, collaborative environment where talented people can thrive, develop their expertise and deliver meaningful change. Our teams bring together technical excellence, innovation and a people-first approach to solve complex challenges and deliver lasting value.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to join Amber Labs on a permanent basis, supporting a major UK public sector technology transformation programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for a product-focused professional with a strong technical understanding of network infrastructure, particularly Cisco SD-WAN technologies, to take ownership of complex technology products and services.

You will be responsible for defining and evolving product direction, leading multidisciplinary teams and ensuring successful delivery across the full product lifecycle. Working within a complex stakeholder environment, you will balance user needs, technical requirements and organisational priorities to deliver high-quality, sustainable technology solutions.

The ideal candidate will combine strong product management expertise with experience delivering network technologies, particularly within policing or similarly complex public sector environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the successful delivery of complex technology products and services, leading and coaching multidisciplinary teams.
  • Define and evolve product vision, strategy, roadmaps, outcomes and release plans, ensuring alignment with user needs and wider business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain realistic delivery plans, managing priorities, dependencies, risks and issues to ensure delivery within agreed time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Lead structured problem-solving, balancing user requirements, technical constraints, operational priorities and long-term product value.
  • Own and prioritise product backlogs, ensuring clear delivery objectives and effective service onboarding plans.
  • Build and develop high-performing teams, encouraging collaboration, providing direction and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Identify and manage delivery risks and issues, ensuring appropriate mitigation plans are established and communicated.
  • Build strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior stakeholders, suppliers and wider customer groups.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance, acting as a key point of contact for delivery-related matters and resolving issues where required.
  • Oversee the full product lifecycle, from discovery and development through to live operation and eventual retirement.
  • Ensure products and services are ready for release, operational transition and relevant governance assessments.
  • Use product, delivery and service performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and drive better outcomes.
  • Promote best practice across product management and delivery, ensuring alignment with relevant government digital standards, technical governance and accessibility requirements.

Essential Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in product management and technology delivery, including:

  • Cisco SD-WAN: Proven experience delivering Cisco SD-WAN technologies, including MANO, vSmart and vBond, with experience implementing these technologies within cloud-hosted environments.
  • Policing Environment: Experience working with policing stakeholders, with an understanding of the challenges associated with service transition from PSN to SD-WAN services and supporting cloud-hosted infrastructure.
  • Product Management: Strong experience defining and managing product vision, strategy, roadmaps, backlogs and service onboarding plans.
  • Technical Delivery: Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex technology products and services across the full product lifecycle.
  • Agile Delivery: Ability to apply Agile, Waterfall or blended delivery methodologies depending on the complexity and requirements of the project.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate strategic objectives and user needs into clear, prioritised and achievable delivery plans.
  • Planning and Prioritisation: Experience managing competing priorities, risks, issues and dependencies across complex technology programmes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with experience engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
  • Supplier Management: Experience managing supplier relationships, monitoring performance and resolving delivery or service-related issues.
  • Team Leadership: Ability to build effective teams, improve team dynamics, coach colleagues and encourage continuous improvement.
  • Commercial Awareness: Understanding of commercial and financial considerations when making product and delivery decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Experience using performance data, feedback and evidence to improve products, services and delivery approaches.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • A recognised qualification in a delivery methodology such as Scrum, SAFe or PRINCE2.
  • Experience in product management, user research or user-centred design within a technology environment.
  • Previous line management experience, including coaching, mentoring and supporting recruitment or capability development.
  • Experience working within complex public sector technology transformation programmes.

Technical Skills Framework

Experience across the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Risk Management (BURM)
  • Project Management (PRMG)
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management (RLMT)
  • Supplier Management (SUPP)
  • Team Dynamics and Collaboration
  • Organisational Facilitation (OFCL)
