Unlocking Opportunities: Over 1 Million IT Jobs to Emerge from New Technologies by 2030

In 2024, the Indian Information Technology (IT) sector faced a nearly 7% decline in hiring due to macroeconomic challenges and geopolitical issues. The unemployment rate peaked at 9.2% in June 2024 but improved to 7.8% by September, as reported by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
Looking ahead, the IT hiring landscape from 2025 to 2030 is optimistic, with a surge driven by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data science. According to Quess IT Staffing, these technologies are projected to create over 1 million jobs in India in the next five years.
The overall workforce in the IT sector is expected to grow from 5.4 million to 7.5 million by 2030, adding more than 2 million jobs. This growth is attributed to rising demand across various industries.
"India's technology workforce is witnessing a transformative shift. The synergy of traditional skills like ERP with breakthrough technologies such as AI, ML, and quantum computing presents unparalleled opportunities," says Kapil Joshi, CEO of Quess IT Staffing.
In addition to AI and cybersecurity, blockchain and quantum computing are also revolutionizing sectors like Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI), healthcare, and retail. The anticipated job growth is expected to contribute over INR 12,82,350 crore (USD 150 billion) to India's economy.
High-Demand, High-Reward Job Roles
Strategic investments in upskilling the workforce are crucial as these technologies advance rapidly. The AI talent pool in India is expanding by 15% annually, yet the industry demands are growing at 25-30%, leading to a talent gap. Companies are now focusing on sector-specific candidates with relevant skills and investing in upskilling their employees in AI to boost efficiency.
Over the next five years, significant demand is expected for blockchain skills, with roles increasing by 60% from 2021 to 2023. Furthermore, global hiring for cloud computing roles saw a 30-35% rise year-on-year in 2023.
Due to the high demand and limited skilled professionals, companies are offering attractive salaries to lure top talent. For example, blockchain developers in India earn an average annual salary of about INR 6,00,000, with entry-level positions starting at INR 3,00,000 and senior roles reaching up to INR 31,00,000.
Individuals are also actively acquiring new skills to stay competitive, and businesses are increasingly hiring gig workers for specialized projects, enhancing productivity.
While Bengaluru currently leads tech hiring with 43.5%, companies are expanding their recruitment efforts to other cities like Coimbatore and Jaipur, fostering a broader tech ecosystem across India. Coimbatore, in particular, is emerging as a growing industrial and IT hub, reflecting this shift beyond traditional metropolitan areas.
