Estée Lauder Companies Closes Romanian Tech Hub
Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has officially shut down its Bucharest technology hub, resulting in the layoff of 150 employees. This move is part of the company's broader Beauty Turnaround restructuring plan aimed at streamlining operations and reducing costs.
Details of the Closure
The tech center, which was opened in April 2023 as ELC's third global technology campus, has been closed, as reported by Profit.ro. It's important to note that this closure does not affect the company's larger Bucharest office, which continues to operate.
This decision aligns with the restructuring strategy announced by CEO Stéphane de La Faverie in February 2025, which includes plans for up to 7,000 job cuts globally. So far, 3,200 roles have already been eliminated as part of this initiative.
Reasons Behind the Shutdown
The closure of the Romanian tech hub is a direct result of ELC's cost-cutting measures following a year of weaker sales. By consolidating its technology operations, the company aims to improve efficiency and financial performance in a challenging market environment.
