The Unstoppable Demand for Tech Talent in the AI Era
A top executive from SAP, Thomas Saueressig, emphasizes that critical thinking and deep industry knowledge are more crucial than ever in the tech industry. Despite the rise of AI coding tools, there's a scarcity of developers and SAP experts, making these skills highly sought after.
AI: A Productivity Booster, Not a Job Killer
Saueressig argues that AI will create more jobs than it replaces. "We believe that AI will actually create far more jobs than we currently expect," he said. The focus is shifting towards domain-specific AI models, where industry expertise becomes a key differentiator.
The Evolving Role of Engineers
Engineers' roles are expanding beyond coding to include architecture, code reviews, and brainstorming. AI can automate some tasks, but human oversight ensures alignment with organizational goals. At SAP, 75% of developers have undergone AI training, and 90% use AI tools daily to boost productivity.
SAP's AI-First Strategy
SAP is embedding AI into all its software, making it the new UI. "AI is not something separate; it's part of modern enterprise software," Saueressig explained. The company leverages data from 40,000 customers to train its foundational models, ensuring relevant and reliable AI.
India's Role in SAP's AI Vision
Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP and MD of SAP Labs India, highlights that every developer in India will be an AI developer. The new Bengaluru campus, set to house 15,000 employees, underscores India's pivotal role in SAP's global strategy.
