About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Technical Leader to join our Connected Devices Platform team at Cisco. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems that support millions of users globally. Your expertise will help ensure the resilience, scalability, and high performance of our platform, which is critical to delivering quality broadband experiences to consumers worldwide. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to create innovative solutions, improve existing architectures, and implement best practices for development and operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of connected device management and contribute to Cisco’s AI-driven initiatives in the digital experience space. You will also serve as a mentor, guiding team members in technical skills and best practices to foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Qualifications

  • Expert-level understanding of Java or Kotlin programming languages
  • Extensive experience working with distributed systems, particularly using Apache Kafka
  • Strong architecture and design skills, including data modeling and API design
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI development and harness creation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Kotlin and Golang (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes and modern cloud deployment practices (preferred)
  • Familiarity with various datastore technologies, including transactional, analytical, relational, and document-based databases (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-volume streaming systems, backend-for-frontend APIs, scalable domain services, and database solutions
  • Ensure the resilience, robustness, and high availability of the platform to deliver excellent customer experiences
  • Design technical solutions for new product features and architecture enhancements
  • Improve development and operational processes to increase speed, reliability, and quality
  • Mentor team members through practical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical strategies with business goals
  • Participate in planning, design, and implementation of platform improvements and innovations
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and incorporate best practices into the team’s workflows
