Full Stack Software Engineer

Scale Health Forward is an early-stage healthcare AI company building software that improves how clinical care is delivered and coordinated. We're a lean, high-conviction team working on problems that matter — and we move fast.

We're looking for a contract full-stack engineer who is sharp, self-directed, and already operating in an AI-native way. Compensation and rates will be discussed with qualified candidates during the interview process.

What you'll do

• Use agentic AI coding tools as a primary part of your daily engineering workflow — not occasionally, but as a default
• Build and ship full-stack features across a clinical software platform
• Design and integrate APIs with third-party services and healthcare data systems
• Work with structured and unstructured data pipelines in a HIPAA-compliant environment
• Contribute to backend services, database architecture, and frontend interfaces
• Collaborate directly with clinical and product leadership to turn requirements into working software

What we're looking for

• 3+ years of full-stack engineering experience with strong TypeScript/Node.js fundamentals (not necessary if skills are there)
• Solid experience with relational databases and RESTful API design
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot Workspace, or similar) — you rely on these tools, not just tolerate them
• Familiarity with Linear for project and ticket management
• Experience integrating complex third-party APIs, especially in regulated or data-heavy domains
• Healthcare data experience or familiarity with HIPAA-compliant environments is a strong plus
• Self-directed, async-first, and comfortable owning work end to end with minimal hand-holding
• Startup-ready — you thrive with ambiguity and can iterate quickly without a fully defined spec

What to expect in our interview process

We take agentic coding seriously — it's not a nice-to-have, it's how we work. As part of the interview process, candidates will be asked to share Markdown files demonstrating their use of AI agents in their workflow, and will complete a live or async exercise that shows their ability to write code using agentic tools. If you're not already working this way day-to-day, this role is likely not the right fit.
