For one of our European clients, we are currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer (Scala/Kafka).

Scope:
Central Data Platform has been build in Scala (and API) and runs on Databricks and Kafka/Confluent. Almost all CDP knowledge sits with one person. The role keeps CDP running until it is re-platformed/migrated to HERA and switched off.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain, monitor, and optimize production Scala pipelines and REST APIs running on Databricks.
- Manage and troubleshoot high-throughput event streaming via Apache Kafka / Confluent (lag, partitioning, reliability).
- Ensure platform stability, data integrity, and SLA compliance.
- Partner with the client’s data engineering team to plan, validate, and execute the migration to HERA.
- Support phased cutover, backfilling, and the eventual decommissioning of the legacy platform.
Skills:
- 5+ years in senior Data Engineering or Data Platform roles.
- Advanced Scala and Apache Kafka (or Confluent).
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark.
- Practical experience maintaining and debugging data platform APIs.
- Proven ability to reverse-engineer undocumented codebases and support platform migrations.
- Fluent English (mandatory); Dutch language skills (nice to have).
