Drupal FullStack Developer - Front End Focus

Salsa Digital is looking for a Drupal Full-Stack Developer with a focus in Frontend to come join our team, working 24 hours a week with the potential of up to 38 hours by mutual agreement for up to 6 months with the possibility of extension.

This position will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining high quality Drupal solutions with a strong emphasis on frontend engineering, supported by solid backend capability. This role combines strong engineering capability with practical delivery experience in government and enterprise environments, working within Salsa’s standardised platforms, products and ways of working.

As the Drupal Full-Stack Developer you will be responsible for:

• Deep expertise in Drupal theming, component libraries and frontend architecture is essential.
• Contributing to discovery and solution definition for Drupal projects
• Designing and implementing Drupal backend features and integrations
• Implementing and maintaining Drupal front-end themes and component libraries
• Participating in project execution and delivery using agile methodologies
• Producing high quality, maintainable, secure and well tested code
• Collaborating with Technical Leads, Product Owners, UX, QA, DevOps and client stakeholders
• Contributing to Salsa Digital marketing activities and the Drupal community
• Maintaining up to date Drupal knowledge and skills
• Contributing to training and knowledge sharing within the team, and occasionally with clients

This is a senior individual contributor role. It does not carry primary accountability for overall solution architecture or team management; those responsibilities sit with the Technical Lead or Solution Architect. However, the Drupal Full-Stack Developer is expected to show technical leadership in their domain and to mentor less experienced developers.

On-call and after-hours support participation is preferred but not mandatory. When participating, you will receive after-hours bonuses and will need to follow Salsa’s agreed rostering and escalation processes.

The role may also include other duties that may be required from time to time, which do not fall within the remit of other staff roles, and that may be reasonably linked to the broader operations function.

Although Salsa appreciates and embraces diversity the preferred candidate will be based in Australia and ideally an Australian Citizen with current Baseline clearance or eligibility for Baseline clearance. This position works from home during AEST business hours.

Must Haves:

• Based in Australia, ideally an Australian citizen.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for client facing delivery.
• Deep expertise in Drupal theming, Twig, component based design systems and accessible frontend development.
• 5 plus years experience delivering enterprise Drupal solutions.
• Proven capability across both backend and frontend Drupal development including:
• Advanced theme development using Twig, design systems and component based approaches
• Strong understanding of accessibility and frontend performance optimisation
• Backend capability including custom modules, services and integrations
• Configuration management and deployment workflows
• Experience working in agile delivery teams.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, code review processes and automated testing.
• Ability to deliver high quality work with minimal supervision and mentor others.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience contributing to design systems or frontend frameworks used in Drupal ecosystems.
• Strong knowledge of modern CSS methodologies or frontend build tooling relevant to Drupal.
• Experience delivering on GovCMS or similar government platforms.
• Experience with CivicTheme or structured design systems.
• Knowledge of modern Drupal toolchains and hosting environments.
• Contributions to the Drupal community or other open source projects.
• Exposure to containerisation, automated deployments or managed Drupal hosting.
