Senior Business Analyst
Job Description
Posted on: August 26, 2025
About us
Nexl is the fast-growing LegalTech startup on a mission to elevate the business of law.
Our platform is purpose-built for law firms, and brings together CRM, collaboration, and client intelligence in one solution — empowering lawyers, marketers, and BD teams to deepen relationships, accelerate growth, and win more high-value work.
We’re backed by top global VCs, recognised as one of Australia’s fastest-growing tech companies, and expanding rapidly across APAC, the US, LATAM, and Europe, and we’re only just getting started.
The Opportunity
We’re searching for a rockstar Senior Business Analyst to take a lead role in defining, owning, and delivering a complex new product in the legal tech space. This isn’t your average BA role — it’s a chance to have end-to-end ownership in a growing team where your impact will be felt immediately.
You’ll often work independently to bring clarity to evolving requirements, shape a multi-faceted product vision, and translate ideas into actionable documentation that our development team can move on quickly. The environment is fast-paced, the scope is ambitious, and priorities will shift often.
If you’re the kind of BA/PO/PM hybrid who thrives in ambiguity, loves creating order out of chaos, and wants to help shape a product that’s breaking new ground in legal tech — this is your moment.
What You’ll Own & DoProduct Discovery & Definition
- Uncover, clarify, and structure ambiguous and ever-changing business needs into a clear, coherent product scope.
- Drive workshops, interviews, and stakeholder alignment with limited availability and support.
- Define and manage an evolving product backlog with a strong user-centric and agile mindset.
Documentation & Delivery Readiness
- Produce clear, developer-ready user stories, acceptance criteria, wireframes, and workflow diagrams.
- Create end-to-end functional documentation covering multiple product facets and integrations.
- Validate technical feasibility and ensure dev-readiness of all requirements.
Product Ownership & Project Management
- Act as the Product Owner for dev teams, prioritizing backlogs, refining scope, and providing sprint-level guidance.
- Own QA processes, including hands-on testing, issue triage, and release sign-off.
- Drive definition of done, product sign-off, and oversee delivery milestones with minimal oversight.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with execs, legal SMEs, developers, and designers—especially when none are available to give you what you need.
- Keep stakeholders updated, aligned, and confident through rapid and iterative development cycles.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in business analysis, product ownership, or technical project management.
- Deep familiarity with legal tech and legal workflows, and regulatory or compliance-heavy products.
- Proven success leading complex software projects from scratch with little initial direction.
- Excellent at navigating ambiguity, vague requirements, and high-pressure environments.
- Strong experience with Agile methodologies, backlog management, and QA processes.
- Ability to write world-class documentation without needing constant input or validation.
- Comfortable with tools like Trello, Confluence, Miro, Figma, and similar.
Bonus if you also have:
- Experience working with small teams — being a "one-person army."
- Background in law firm tech or legal competitive intelligence automation.
- Experience with API integrations, data mapping, and SaaS delivery models.
What's In It For You?
- Remote-first culture: Our teams are supported to work from anywhere, with access to co-working spaces for those who prefer it.
- Transparent by default: Fortnightly all-hands keep everyone in the loop on company updates, wins, learnings, and new launches.
- Modern tools & tech: We’re AI-obsessed and embrace automation so you can work smarter, stay focused, and do your best work.
- Flexibility you won’t find elsewhere: We trust you to manage your time and energy. Autonomy comes standard at Nexl.
- Employee Stock Options: Everyone shares in the upside with options. When we grow, you grow.
- High-growth & ownership: You won’t just be along for the ride at Nexl. You’ll be hands-on, grow quickly, and see the direct impact of your work.
- Values-led culture: Our operating principles and values shape how we work, make decisions, and execute our shared mission.
- In-person connection: We make time for team socials and off-sites, because face-to-face moments still matter to us.
Even if you don’t tick every box, if you’re excited about our mission — we’d love to hear from you!
