Principal Software Engineer
UK Remote
Neulinx are partnering with a growing, AI-powered SaaS company to hire an exceptional Principal Engineer with strong experience across Software Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps.
This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, taking ownership of architecture and influencing engineering decisions without moving into people management.
You'll play a key role in developing a sophisticated, high-scale platform while helping shape the wider engineering infrastructure, tooling and technical direction.
The Opportunity
Working closely with senior engineering leadership, you'll have ownership across both product development and platform engineering.
You'll be responsible for:
- Designing, building and scaling complex, production-grade software systems.
- Taking technical ownership of features, services and architectural decisions.
- Working across backend services, APIs, databases and integrations.
- Improving AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes and platform reliability.
- Driving improvements in observability, security, performance and engineering standards.
- Modernising legacy systems and simplifying complex architectures.
- Using AI coding tools to accelerate development and improve engineering productivity.
- Mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction while remaining hands-on.
Tech Stack
You'll work across a varied, modern engineering environment:
- Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript, Node.js, Express, Python, FastAPI, Angular, React Native
- Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (EKS, ECS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront), Kubernetes, Terraform
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, DocumentDB
- DevOps & CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry
- Testing: Jest, Cypress
- AI Development: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar tools
You don't need experience with every technology, but you should be comfortable working across a broad engineering stack.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience as a Principal, Staff or Lead Software Engineer, ideally within a startup or scale-up.
- A track record of being the primary technical engineer on complex products or platforms.
- Strong software architecture, backend engineering and distributed systems experience.
- Hands-on AWS, infrastructure and DevOps expertise.
- Experience working across multiple programming languages, databases and services.
- Highly proficient with AI-assisted coding tools and enthusiastic about modern AI-native development.
- A product-focused mindset, strong technical judgement and the ability to work autonomously.
- A genuine desire to remain a hands-on individual contributor.
