About The Role We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join our Developer Products team at Workato, based in San Francisco. This role is pivotal in shaping the next generation of developer tools and platforms, specifically designed for building large language model (LLM) and agentic applications. As a key member of our team, you will be at the forefront of AI innovation, creating solutions that enhance how developers interact with Workato's ecosystem in the age of artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product managers, designers, developer relations, and fellow engineers—to deliver robust, scalable, and intuitive services. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining developer-facing products and APIs, ensuring a seamless and delightful developer experience. This role requires a high technical standard, a strong focus on developer ergonomics, and a passion for creating tools that empower developers to innovate efficiently. In this position, you will drive the entire development lifecycle—from conceptualization and architecture to deployment and continuous improvement. Your work will directly impact how developers build on top of Workato’s platform, enabling the creation of sophisticated AI-driven applications. You will also evaluate and optimize existing solutions for performance, scalability, and usability, while mentoring team members and conducting code reviews to uphold engineering excellence. Staying current with advancements in AI, LLMs, and developer tooling is essential, as you will bring new ideas and technologies to enhance our platform and developer experience. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience with a proven track record of delivering high-quality products.
• Strong advocate for a great developer experience, with a product-minded approach to engineering solutions.
• Experience building developer-facing products, including APIs, SDKs, or CLIs.
• Proven experience deploying and maintaining machine learning services in production environments is highly desirable.
• Deep understanding of API design, developer tooling, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with LLM operations (LLMops) and MLops, especially in developer-facing products, is a significant plus.
• Experience supporting or building developer platforms, sandbox environments, or related tooling is highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, robust, and high-quality developer-facing products and APIs tailored for LLM and agentic application development.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, developer relations, and engineering teams to translate developer needs and product requirements into elegant technical solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, fostering a culture of engineering excellence within the team.
• Implement and enhance validation, monitoring, and observability for machine learning services within sandbox environments to ensure reliability and performance.
• Lead the full development lifecycle, from initial ideation and architecture to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Optimize existing implementations for performance, scalability, and usability, ensuring a seamless developer experience.
• Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks, bugs, and challenges in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor team members to uphold high standards of engineering quality and best practices.
• Stay informed about the latest developments in AI, LLMs, and developer tooling, bringing innovative ideas and technologies to the team.
