Web Developer

Neon Canvas is seeking a full-time Web Developer to own the day-to-day execution of WordPress builds and web requests for our growing portfolio of clients. This role works closely with the Director of Web Development and Jr. Developer to ensure sites are built, maintained, and updated to a high standard of quality, performance, and brand consistency.

Our ideal candidate is a hands-on builder who takes pride in clean, accurate work and can operate independently with minimal oversight. They are comfortable taking a project from design handoff to launch on their own, proactively communicating blockers, and serving as a technical resource for junior team members. This person will own the full lifecycle of assigned builds and web requests while upholding the team's quality standards and security practices.

ResponsibilitiesWebsite Development and Builds

• Build WordPress sites end-to-end, from design handoff through QA to launch.
• Customize themes with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to match client branding and design specs.
• Load, style, and structure site content and pages with consistency across the portfolio.
• Architect and build standard-complexity projects with limited direction.
• Configure Jotform and other data-collection forms tailored to client needs.

Web Requests and Client Updates

• Execute live site edits, client-requested updates, and punch list items accurately and on time.
• Manage assigned web requests from intake through delivery, communicating proactively when blockers arise.
• Identify patterns in recurring client requests and surface them to the Director as opportunities for process improvement.

Site Maintenance, Security, and Quality

• Manage plugin updates across client websites, testing for conflicts before deploying to live environments.
• Investigate and resolve site security issues, coordinating with Sucuri and WPEngine as needed.
• Conduct self-QA before marking work complete, using team checklists and standards as the baseline.
• Monitor assigned sites for performance issues and flag potential risks to department leadership.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of WordPress development experience, including theme customization, plugin management, and site builds from design to launch.
• Solid proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; capable of writing and debugging custom code without heavy reliance on plugins or frameworks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to match designs with high fidelity across browsers and devices.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and web requests, hitting deadlines consistently.
• Experience with website security practices and familiarity with tools such as Sucuri and WPEngine.
• Comfortable working independently on standard-complexity builds with minimal day-to-day direction.
• Proactive communicator who surfaces blockers early and brings proposed solutions rather than just problems.
• Experience with form builders such as Jotform or equivalent tools.
• Working knowledge of SEO best practices and their application within WordPress.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and a genuine interest in using them to work faster and better.

Salary Range

$50,000 - $60,000 annually, based on experience.
