Our users create "Kewordal lists" to improve their academic results while building social learning communities of friends, peers, teachers, and mentors (via the support of businesses), to enhance their prospects for success. We have recently concluded a successful testing/MVP period and are currently implementing exciting updates to our site, preparing for launch in the coming months.We are now seeking a React Native Developer with mobile experience, looking to gain more experience by joining our mission of transforming education through the development of our mobile application. This 3-month voluntary opportunity offers invaluable hands-on experience to develop your craft in the Tech for Good space, while contributing to meaningful educational innovation!

What You'll DoAs our React Native Developer, you’ll:

  • Build and enhance our mobile app using React Native, working closely with UX and design to refine user journeys.
  • Translate visual designs into pixel-perfect, responsive mobile UI components.
  • Optimise performance, accessibility, and smooth interaction for mobile users across iOS and Android.
  • Ensure consistency across platforms: web + mobile.
  • Collaborate with back-end engineers to integrate APIs, manage offline states / synchronisation, handle real-time updates where needed.
  • Implement best practices for mobile security, error handling and graceful degradation.
  • Iterate based on user feedback, testing, and analytics to improve usability and mobile engagement.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience building mobile apps with React Native (Expo experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of mobile development principles for iOS and Android platforms.
  • Solid front-end skills: JavaScript / TypeScript, responsive design, experience with animations and transitions.
  • A good eye for design, usability, and accessibility.
  • Comfortable collaborating with UX/design teams and working from mock-ups or sketches.
  • Problem-solving mindset; willing to iterate.
  • Passion for education, equity and impact.
  • Strong communication and openness to feedback as part of the learning process.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while staying in regular contact with the team.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in EdTech, gamification, or mobile-first product design.
  • Knowledge of performance optimisation, offline sync, app store deployment.
  • Experience with analytics / user testing tools.
  • Familiarity with native mobile development for custom module development.
