We’re looking for someone to join the growing team at Illustrate Digital, someone who wants to get stuck in and help take us to the next level by producing industry-leading backend systems and integrations.

When considering this role, some of the key traits/experiences you may possess are:

• An deep understanding of WordPress and how modifications can be achieved in the most effective way
• A problem solver who is comfortable finding solutions to technical challenges on a regular basis
• Commercial understanding of scoping and costing projects
• Able to self-manage your time and workload, working with Client Partners and stakeholders to provide data and feedback of your work and ensure that projects are delivered on-time and on-budget
• Experience working with version controlling
• Good communication skills and the ability to work and collaborate as part of a team and directly with clients.
• Taking pride in your work and the team you’re a part of
• Maintaining social connection and good communication even virtually
• Comfortable coaching and encouraging junior developers, as well as taking the lead on projects you’re involved in

Required Technical Skills

• Custom Theme or Plugin Development for WordPress
• Modern WordPress block development using either ACF or JavaScript
• PHP
• CSS/SCSS
• JavaScript
• MySQL Databases
• Git version control in either Bitbucket, Github or similar.
• Custom API Integrations using either REST or GraphQL API’s
• Understanding of WordPress Coding Standards (WPCS v3)
• Understanding of WordPress security best practices

Desired Technical Skills

• React.js and how to use it to build custom WordPress blocks
• Next.js and its use in building Headless CMS
• Laravel Development
• Bitbucket Pipelines or Github Actions
• Deployment tools like Deploybot
• Cloud Infrastructure configuration and setup (Eg Digital Ocean or AWS)
• Node.js 
• GA4/ Google Tag Manager

Backend Developers at Illustrate Digital are well respected members of the team who bring solutions together in WordPress, adding a great deal of value to the agency and to our clients. We’re looking for someone who is keen to work on innovative solutions for websites, software and integrations.

As a Backend WordPress Developers at Illustrate Digital you’ll be responsible for developing website backends in WordPress to create excellent content and management experiences for users, implementing new solutions on existing sites and software, and managing existing solutions to ensure future-proofing and security of WordPress environments.

The best person for this role is someone who believes in the importance of doing things well, to a high standard and who would be keen to bring their experience and help implement new processes, creative ideas and innovative practices to help their teammates to succeed.

Salary & Features

• £32,500 - £40,000 (BOE)
