We are seeking an experienced Pharmacy Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Product Owner with deep expertise in Specialty Pharmacy and a strong understanding of the end-to-end Prescription Life Cycle. This role will collaborate with cross functional teams to define product requirements, optimize pharmacy workflows, and support the development of technology solutions that enhance patient and provider experiences.
Specialty Pharmacy Expertise
• SME for specialty pharmacy workflows, including:
o Patient onboarding & intake
o Benefits investigation (medical & pharmacy)
o Prior authorization workflows and clinical documentation support
o Clinical assessments and therapy-specific procedures
o Patient and Provider engagement
o Specialty medication storage, handling, and shipping (cold chain)
o REMS program requirements
Prescription Life Cycle Knowledge
Lead functional design across the full prescription lifecycle, including:
• Prescription intake (e-prescribing, fax, phone, NCPDP SCRIPT workflows)
• Eligibility and benefits verification
• Prior authorization review and processing
• Clinical checks such as DUR, MTM, and drug interactions
• Dispensing workflows, including labeling, verification, and fulfillment
• Shipping, logistics, and delivery tracking
• Refill management, reminders, and chronic therapy adherence
Provide direction on designing solutions that support:
• High-touch patient care
• Complex dosing regimens
• Financial assistance and copay assistance workflows
• Patient education and prescriber coordination
Ensure solution design aligns with industry standards
Strong expertise in:
• Specialty pharmacy
• End-to-end prescription life cycle
• Clinical workflows and medication safety
• NCPDP SCRIPT standards
• Prior authorization, benefits verification, and clinical checks
Roles & Responsibilities
• Contribute to business requirements for new and existing systems from ideation through production and project oversight.
• Extraction of requirements from business sources
• Discussions with technical resources on business intent and requirements
• Skills to discuss, if not influence, technical design of associated applications
• Participate in defining business requirements with business sponsors, TPO and System Engineering teams for new and modified business applications, product, or client requests
• Apply new technical tools and techniques to support business
• Provide input and insight into technical design of new and existing business applications.
• Owns the creation of epics to support analytic needs
• Participates in essential meetings, ceremonies, and release planning conversations to ensure training or documentation resources support a successful adoption
• Communicate and report on progress regularly with stakeholders
• Prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines.
• Excellent skills in workflow design, documentation, and communication. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Define product vision, roadmap, and release strategy for pharmacy-related capabilities.
• Create and maintain epics, user stories, workflows, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.
• Conduct backlog refinement, sprint planning, and UAT with engineering and QA teams.
Collaborate with UI/UX designers to create intuitive provider, patient, and staff experiences.
