A growing mid-sized utilities organization is seeking a Data Engineer with hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience to support the continued modernization of its enterprise data platform.
This role will focus on designing and optimizing scalable data pipelines and Lakehouse solutions that power operational analytics, regulatory reporting, asset performance insights, and executive decision-making.
The ideal candidate will bring recent experience in Energy, Oil & Gas, or Utilities, with a strong understanding of working in regulated, operational data environments.
This is a fully remote position within the Continental U.S., offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a critical infrastructure industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric (Data Engineering, Data Factory, OneLake, Lakehouse)
- Develop and optimize enterprise-grade Lakehouse and warehouse solutions
- Ingest, transform, and model data from operational systems (e.g., asset management, billing, ERP, grid systems, SCADA)
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries for large-scale data transformation
- Support Power BI and semantic model development for analytics teams
- Ensure data quality, governance, reliability, and performance across environments
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to define scalable data solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in production environments
- Support regulatory and operational reporting requirements common in utilities/energy
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related role
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric in a production environment
- Strong SQL development skills with experience handling large datasets
- Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines
- Recent experience within Energy, Oil & Gas, or Utilities
- Familiarity with data modeling best practices (dimensional modeling, star schema)
- Experience working within the Microsoft data ecosystem
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Power BI and semantic models
- Exposure to Azure Data Services
- Python or other scripting language experience
- Experience supporting operational or regulatory reporting environments
- Experience working with enterprise asset or operational systems
