Java Software Engineer | Java, AWS, Financial Data6-Month Contract

£77 per hour (Inside IR35) - 37.5 hours per week

Remote - occasional travel to Manchester for workshops and key programme sessions

Digital Skills are working with a global technology business undergoing a major modernisation programme across its financial data platforms. The organisation operates at significant scale and delivers highly regulated, business-critical systems that support complex financial and reporting processes.

About the Role

This role sits within a newly formed engineering team focused on building and operating backend services that prepare and deliver high-quality financial data into enterprise finance systems. You will play a key role in designing, building and running reliable, compliant services while working closely with engineering, finance, product and compliance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend services primarily using Java and Spring Boot
• Develop APIs and data processing services that deliver accurate and timely financial data
• Work with relational databases, including writing and optimising SQL queries
• Contribute to the deployment, monitoring and operation of services in AWS-based production environments
• Support SOX and GDPR compliance through strong engineering practices, documentation and observability
• Participate in code reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing within a cross-functional team
• Help diagnose and resolve production issues, contributing to root cause analysis and long-term fixes

Desired Skills and Experience

• Strong professional experience developing backend systems using Java and Spring Boot
• Experience working with financial or highly regulated data environments
• Solid understanding of AWS and cloud-native application development
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases, ideally SQL Server
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and Kubernetes
• Experience working in DevOps-oriented teams with end-to-end service ownership
• Awareness of regulatory requirements such as SOX and GDPR, or a strong willingness to work within regulated environments
• Clear communication skills and experience working closely with non-engineering stakeholders
