Director of Engineering

About the Role

We’re partnering with a high-growth SaaS startup that has recently closed its Series A funding to hire a Director of Engineering. This is a unique opportunity to build and scale an engineering organisation from the ground up, working closely with the founding team to define the technology strategy and lead high-impact execution. You'll take ownership of hiring, team structure, delivery processes, and technical direction in a remote-first setup.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing engineering team from the ground up
• Translate product vision into scalable, robust software architecture
• Drive day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring delivery at speed and quality
• Define and implement development processes that support fast iteration with strong reliability
• Partner with the co-founders and product leadership to align technology with business goals
• Create a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, accountability, and technical excellence
• Maintain hands-on involvement when needed to support technical challenges and unblock teams

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams in a startup environment
• Strong track record of engineering leadership in high-growth SaaS businesses
• Experience delivering enterprise-grade software products to global customers
• Deep understanding of cloud-native architecture, product scalability, and team operations
• Ability to lead with influence and clarity in a remote-first, fast-paced culture
• Strong communication skills with a bias for action and a high sense of ownership

Nice to Have

• Experience working with international SaaS clients, particularly in enterprise environments
• Technical background with the ability to guide architectural decisions when needed
• Familiarity with metrics-driven engineering orgs (e.g., DORA, engineering KPIs)

This is a remote-first position, ideally based in or around Berlin. The company plans to establish a local hub in the region, offering flexibility while fostering strong team collaboration.
