Business Analyst – Must hold active SC ClearanceRemote with ad hoc travel to LondonAbout Amber Labs
Amber Labs is a modern, data‑driven digital consultancy specialising in user‑centred design, cloud engineering, and emerging technology. We partner with UK government departments to deliver impactful, ethical, and scalable digital services. Our teams thrive on curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to doing the right thing for users.
We’re now looking for a Business Analyst to join an innovative Discovery project, working closely with GDS, service teams, and policy stakeholders to shape the future of a critical public service.
The Opportunity
This is a hands‑on role at the heart of early‑stage service design. You’ll help define the problem space, understand user needs, and build a clear evidence base that will guide Alpha and beyond. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary team alongside user researchers, service designers, technical architects, and product leads.
Your work will directly influence strategic decisions, ensuring the service meets GDS standards and delivers real value for citizens and government.
What You’ll Do
- Lead business analysis activities throughout Discovery, shaping scope, objectives, and success measures.
- Map current‑state processes, systems, and pain points across complex organisational landscapes.
- Collaborate with user researchers to translate user insights into actionable requirements and service opportunities.
- Facilitate workshops with policy, operational, and technical stakeholders to build shared understanding.
- Identify constraints, risks, dependencies, and opportunities for innovation.
- Produce clear artefacts such as problem statements, service blueprints, process maps, and options analysis.
- Support the Product Lead in prioritisation and roadmap development.
- Ensure alignment with GDS Service Standard, Technology Code of Practice, and accessibility requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and evidence‑based decision‑making.
What You Bring
- Experience working as a Business Analyst within UK government or regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of GDS ways of working, including Discovery, Alpha, and user‑centred design principles.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, ask the right questions, and uncover root causes.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence facilitating workshops and challenging assumptions.
- Experience producing high‑quality analysis artefacts that support strategic and delivery decisions.
- Familiarity with service design, agile delivery, and multidisciplinary team environments.
- A collaborative mindset and a passion for improving public services.
Why Amber Labs
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Flexible hybrid working.
- A supportive, diverse, and inclusive culture.
- Opportunities to work on high‑impact government programmes.
- Investment in your professional development, certifications, and career growth.
- A community of technologists and designers who genuinely care about making a difference.
