The Current Landscape of High-Tech Jobs in the EU
High-tech professionals make up 5.2% of the EU's workforce, totaling over 10 million individuals. However, the gender representation within this sector remains disproportionate. As of 2023, women held only 32.2% of high-tech jobs, which reflects a slight decline of 0.6% from the previous year.
Leading Regions for Female Employment in High-Tech
According to Eurostat, the Hungarian region of Nyugat-Dunántúl is the standout, with women making up 50.2% of the workforce, the only region in Europe where they outnumber men. Following closely are:
- Marche, Italy: 48.6% female employment
- Észak-Magyarország, Hungary: 48.1% female employment
Conversely, the region with the lowest female representation in high-tech jobs is Thessalia, Greece, at just 8.3%.
Regions with the Most High-Tech Professionals
In terms of overall employment, Bavaria leads as the region with the highest number of high-tech jobs in 2023, boasting 476,000 professionals. The following regions also rank high:
- ĂŽle de France, Paris: 469,100
- North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany: 466,100
- Baden-WĂĽrttemberg, Germany: 434,100
On the flip side, regions like Peloponnisos in Greece, Bolzano in Italy, and Crete, Greece reported the lowest figures, each with fewer than 5,000 high-tech professionals.
