Technology employment in Arizona is set for a significant boost in 2026, with a new report forecasting the addition of over 4,000 jobs to the state's tech workforce. According to the "State of the Tech Workforce 2026" report by CompTIA, the leading global provider of vendor-neutral IT training and certifications, Arizona's tech sector is poised for growth despite recent challenges.
Moderate Growth After a Decline
In 2025, tech employment in Arizona declined by 0.5%, resulting in the loss of an estimated 1,025 jobs. However, the tide is turning. CompTIA estimates that net tech employment will grow by 1.9% in 2026, creating 4,021 new jobs and increasing the state's tech labor force to more than 212,000 workers. This growth aligns with the projected national rate, with Arizona among 25 states expected to match or exceed it.
Economic Impact and Industry Fundamentals
Arizona's tech industry has a substantial economic footprint, contributing an estimated $39.3 billion to the state's economy. With over 16,000 tech business establishments, the sector remains a key driver of innovation and employment. Seth Robinson, vice president of industry research at CompTIA, emphasized the resilience of tech employment: "The fundamentals of tech employment remain on solid footing. As companies continue to invest in AI, cybersecurity, data analytics, infrastructure, and other areas, they will also need skilled tech professionals to make those investments pay off."
The Rise of AI in Hiring
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the tech job market, with employer hiring activity increasingly dominated by AI skills. In January 2026, more than 275,000 active job postings nationally referenced a need for some level of AI skills. This includes dedicated AI positions, such as AI engineers or AI architects, as well as roles requiring AI fluency to utilize and optimize tools for enhanced productivity.
