Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has shared insights on how AI is set to revolutionize the workforce, automating tasks and reshaping job roles. In a conversation with CNBC's Jim Cramer, Jassy highlighted AI as the most transformative technology of our lifetime, poised to alter how we work fundamentally.

The Impact of AI on Jobs

Jassy explained that while AI will automate certain tasks, leading to a reduction in some jobs, it will also create new opportunities. "There will be fewer people doing some of the jobs that technology starts to automate… and there are going to be other jobs that technology wants you to go higher that we will hire over time too," he added.

Enhancing Work with AI

The Amazon CEO also noted that AI could elevate the starting point for every task, making jobs more engaging by reducing routine work. "That's going to make all our jobs more interesting," Jassy remarked.

Amazon's Hiring Strategy

Despite recent layoffs, Amazon plans to continue hiring in AI, robotics, and other divisions. Jassy acknowledged that the company's workforce might decline in the coming years due to efficiency gains from AI, but emphasized the emergence of new roles.

Industry-Wide AI Adoption

Other tech leaders, like Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, have observed AI handling 30% to 50% of tasks within their companies. Similarly, Klarna’s CEO reported a 40% workforce reduction, attributing it to AI investments and natural attrition.

Amazon's Recent Workforce Changes

Amazon has cut over 27,000 jobs since the beginning of 2023, with targeted layoffs in retail and devices divisions, as reported by CNBC.
