About The Role
The Principal Data Engineer at MeridianLink will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated data processing pipelines that support our enterprise data infrastructure. This position involves leading efforts to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from diverse sources, ensuring data quality, security, and accessibility for analytical and operational use. The role requires a strategic thinker with advanced technical expertise in big data frameworks, cloud platforms, and data governance. The Principal Data Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, analysts, product managers, and engineers to translate complex business requirements into scalable and efficient data solutions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize data workflows and enhance decision-making capabilities across the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 6-8 years of experience in data engineering, particularly within financial services or SaaS platforms
- Deep expertise in Python, SQL, and distributed processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
- Proven experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably AWS or Azure
- Hands-on experience with data orchestration tools like Airflow and dbt, and data warehouses including Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
- Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance standards in financial contexts
- Experience working with structured and semi-structured data formats such as Delta, JSON, Parquet, and Avro
- Familiarity with data modeling in Salesforce, Netsuite, and Anaplan for business use cases
- Ability to evaluate emerging data technologies and lead proof-of-concept initiatives
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable data processing pipelines for ETL operations from multiple data sources
- Lead the creation of complex SQL queries to support analytics and reporting requirements
- Develop and maintain technical tools leveraging AI, machine learning, and big data techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate tools and technologies for data infrastructure enhancements
- Collaborate with engineering, data science, product, and business teams to translate requirements into technical specifications and data workflows
- Work with structured and unstructured data stored across data lakes, relational databases, and data warehouses
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and security standards are upheld through rigorous governance practices
- Architect and scale modern data platforms supporting real-time and batch processing for various business functions
- Lead initiatives to improve data workflows, automate processes, and ensure continuous delivery
- Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and lead proof-of-concept projects to evaluate their applicability
- Promote a culture of security, automation, and best practices in data management
- Partner with stakeholders across departments to ensure data solutions meet business needs and compliance standards
