About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our Merchant Experience team, a critical part of Stripe’s platform that shapes the core interactions merchants have with our products. In this role, you will be a technical leader responsible for defining and executing the strategic vision for merchant-facing experiences across Stripe. Your work will directly influence the quality, performance, and innovation of the Stripe Dashboard and related tools used by millions of businesses globally. You will lead complex, cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing reliability, responsiveness, and user engagement, while pioneering the integration of AI to revolutionize how merchants discover, configure, and operate Stripe products. • At least 10-15 years of industry experience in software engineering
• Proven track record of building and shipping large-scale, user-facing web applications
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact
• Deep expertise in modern frontend development, particularly with React
• Strong understanding of full-stack development and architecture
• Demonstrated ability to improve software quality and performance metrics
• Excellent communication skills for articulating technical vision to diverse audiences
• Experience with design systems, component libraries, or frontend platform infrastructure
• Familiarity with performance engineering, profiling, instrumentation, and optimization
• Experience deploying large web applications at global scale, including CDN, bundling, and browser compatibility
• Comfort working across the full stack, including APIs, backend services, and data layers
• Knowledge of distributed systems, API design, and platform development
• Passion for developer experience and productivity tools
• Hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities into user-facing products
• Leadership experience mentoring senior engineers and fostering engineering culture
• Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams without formal authority

Responsibilities

• Define the technical strategy for merchant-facing experiences, emphasizing quality, performance, and AI integration
• Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex, cross-team projects that enhance the reliability and responsiveness of Stripe’s merchant surfaces
• Establish engineering standards, tooling, and processes that promote high-quality, performant UI development
• Drive performance improvements as a core product feature, including instrumentation, architectural enhancements, and optimization efforts
• Innovate on future merchant UX paradigms by exploring AI-driven interaction models and prototypes
• Build scalable platforms, frameworks, and abstractions that increase engineering productivity and enforce best practices
• Collaborate with Product, Design, AI/ML, and Infrastructure teams to translate product vision into actionable technical roadmaps
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, raising the technical bar and fostering a culture of excellence and craftsmanship
• Contribute to the evolution of Stripe’s engineering practices, standards, and community engagement
