🌍 Senior Back-End Engineer @ Root Sustainability (Python/Postgres/AWS)

Are you an experienced back-end engineer who cares about writing good code and doing some good in the world?

At Root Sustainability, we’re helping companies understand the environmental footprint of everything they produce and we’re doing it from the bottom up. Think: tens of millions of purchase order lines, serious data pipelines, and real-time dashboards with real impact. We recently signed our first seriously big customer, and we’re scaling up fast.

That’s where you come in.

🚀 The role

We're looking for a pragmatic, hands-on senior back-end engineer who knows their way around Python, Postgres, and AWS, and who’s excited about working on:

• Scaling infrastructure to handle 50M+ records per customer
• Designing performant APIs and file ingestion workflows
• Solving query performance and caching challenges
• Keeping our platform secure and privacy-proof
• Making smart trade-offs between elegant architecture and getting shit done

You’ll be joining a small, friendly, and ambitious team of two full-stack devs and you’d be the expert on all things backend/infrastructure. We’d love for you to take the lead on that matter, but don’t worry, you won’t be on your own.

🛠️ What we think you’ll need

• 5+ years of experience in back-end development
• Deep comfort with Python and PostgreSQL, and deploying on AWS
• A product mindset: you think in trade-offs and real-world constraints
• Experience (or at least serious interest) in large-scale data ingestion & processing
• You enjoy making complex things simple, and you like to keep things lean
• You're proactive, collaborative, and okay with some ambiguity now and then

🌎 Time and location constraints

• Legally authorized to work in the EU or set up to work as a contractor
• Available between 10AM and 4PM CET (Central European Timezone) on working days
