We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build Presto’s data platform and drive key data initiatives to support Presto’s business. This role will play a critical role in providing smart insights and empowering modern machine learning in the Presto Platform. You will be collaborating with an energetic cross-functional team to deliver innovative data-driven experiences to Presto Customers.
Responsibilities
- Scratch-build a highly scalable, reliable, resilient data platform using technologies like Kinesis, Kafka, Spark, and other big data technologies.
- Maintain existing data platforms, evaluate and define migration path to newer technology stacks .
- Experience in building data infrastructure to handle both real-time and batch processing of large enterprise data sets.
- Understanding of software design principles including algorithm implementation, optimization & performance tuning, integration with other production systems.
- Participate in architecture discussions, influence product roadmap and own the design, development, and launching of new data products and data infrastructure in production.
- Drive data quality and reliability across all product vertical and related business areas.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver great data driven product experience for Presto customers.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills in ideating, prototyping and providing thought leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by the leadership team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- 6+ years overall industry experience in software development.
- 6+ years of experience with large-scale data infrastructure.
- Hand on knowledge with modern cloud based data technologies/stack such as Spark, Airflow, KInesis, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, Docker, BigQuery, etc.
- Experience in AWS data technologies is a plus.
- Proven track record of building large scale production data infrastructure.
- Development experience in at least one object-oriented language Java, Python, etc.
- A self-starter - collaborate closely with other team members to drive projects from initiation to completion with minimal guidance.
- Define and manage SLAs for all data sets and processes running in production.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software development best practices.
- Experience working in a remote environment previously is preferred.
- Must have strong attention to detail as well as strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- A positive, uplifting attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is approximately $120,000 - $ 160,000 annually + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all U.S. locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. At Presto, it is not typical for the individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role; compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances for each case.
