Position Overview

The Director of Engineering at Mobility Market Intelligence will lead a team of software engineers to enhance and evolve our engineering practices while delivering robust solutions for our mortgage and real estate data products. This role is key in our growth journey, focusing on scaling our technical capabilities, optimizing delivery processes, and fostering engineering excellence as we expand our market-leading products.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Establish and implement modern engineering practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code review processes
  • Build a culture of observability, monitoring, and proactive issue identification
  • Create knowledge sharing mechanisms and foster an engineering community focused on best practices
  • Develop and implement strategies to address technical debt while maintaining feature delivery
  • Establish metrics to measure engineering productivity, quality, and delivery performance

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers across our product portfolio
  • Build a collaborative, one-team mindset that encourages cross-functional problem solving
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations
  • Create a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new engineering talent as we scale

Technical Direction

  • Guide architectural decisions
  • Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term technology strategy
  • Review code, design documents, and technical specifications
  • Contribute hands-on code in critical situations, complex problem-solving, or when team needs additional support
  • Lead by example through occasional pair programming and technical mentorship
  • Collaborate with product teams to ensure technical feasibility and optimal implementation approaches
  • Establish and oversee production support processes, including on-call rotations
  • Ensure proper incident response protocols and post-mortem practices

Project Delivery

  • Implement continuous delivery practices that balance speed with stability
  • Drive predictable, measurable software delivery cadences
  • Work closely with product, design, and leadership to align technical initiatives with business goals.
  • Ensure engineering priorities support product innovation, customer needs, and market expansion
  • Identify and remove technical and process blockers
  • Communicate project status, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders across the organization

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • 3+ years in a technical leadership or management role
  • Experience implementing engineering best practices in growing organizations
  • Demonstrated success establishing CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
  • Strong understanding of database technologies, particularly in data-intensive applications
  • Experience leading remote or distributed engineering teams
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in PHP/Laravel environments
  • Experience with Snowflake, MySQL, MariaDB, or SingleStore
  • Track record of transforming engineering practices in scaling companies
  • Knowledge of modern observability tools and practices
  • Experience with both continuous delivery and maintaining mission-critical systems
  • Familiarity with API design, messaging and queuing, and microservices architecture

Success Metrics

  • Define and track key engineering metrics such as deployment frequency, mean time to recovery (MTTR), system uptime, and developer productivity to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Assess existing technical debt across codebases, identify critical bottlenecks, and implement a structured plan to incrementally refactor and improve system maintainability while ensuring ongoing feature delivery.
  • Develop team collaboration and knowledge sharing frameworks
  • Fully functioning continuous delivery pipeline
  • Measurable improvement in system stability and performance
  • Reduction in production incidents and time-to-resolution
  • Established engineering community with shared best practices

Location

This is a remote position with the option to work from our Salt Lake City, UT office.
