Python Engineer

📍 Remote-first (open to most locations across the world, most of the team are across Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Turkey, UK)

 💼 Full-time | Permanent

 🔧 Python | FastAPI | Postgres + pgvector | CI/CD | Modular Monolith

 💰 $120,000–$150,000 + super

High-impact role turning R&D prototypes into production systems that power smarter game decisions.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of software engineering and applied analytics - and wants to help transform a manual insights service into a self-serve product.

Where do you come in?

You’re a Python Engineer who turns experimental AI modules into clean, reliable services. You communicate trade-offs clearly, bring options with a recommendation, and you have enough “game sense” to spot when telemetry doesn’t look right. You’re comfortable touching the web layer when needed to get features over the line, and you treat modern engineering practices as non-negotiable.

Challenge & opportunity

This company is moving from powerful manual reports to a self-serve analytics product. Your work becomes the backbone of that shift-productionising modules, hardening pipelines, and making value obvious to customers.

Your role in the engineering team

Join a tight, multidisciplinary team working across:

  • The core analytics web app (our proprietary games database and patterns).
  • An AI engine that turns complex visuals into insight.
  • A front-facing website used for acquisition, payments, and delivery.
  • You’ll collaborate with a Product Owner and data scientists while freeing the technical founder to focus on deep R&D.

What you’ll be doing

  • Productionise experimental AI modules into testable, scalable Python services.
  • Model and query data on SQL/Postgres + pgvector with self-hosted infrastructure.
  • Build data ingestion from noisy game signals/public sources; use domain context to spot anomalies.
  • Add light full-stack touches when needed to deliver end-to-end features.
  • Uphold modern practices: typing, tests, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Communicate trade-offs, document decisions, and help teammates learn.
  • Own outcomes: bring options with a recommendation and drive to done.

What we’re looking for

  • 3–5 years of Python engineering with modern practices.
  • Experience with Python 3, FastAPI, SQL/Postgres, and pgvector.
  • Comfortable with AI/ML concepts.
  • Genuine passion for computer games; intuitive feel for when data looks “off.”
  • Ownership, initiative, clear communication, and a teaching mindset.
  • Frontend/backend web capability as needed.

Culture & work style

  • Remote-first with core-hours overlap on meetings in AUS/NZ time zones.
  • Multidisciplinary, collaborative, startup-energy.
  • Ethical AI that augments human decision-making.
  • R&D-grant certified (supports flexible global hiring pathways).
