Heliene is seeking a Director of Product Reliability Engineering to lead our Reliability Engineering Program. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of Product Reliability Engineering will have overall responsibility of research, assessment, selection of materials, and preparation and implementation of company-wide product reliability plans. This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated individual to join a team that is developing solutions to tackle the climate crisis with strong development and manufacturing presence in North America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop reliability engineering programs for standard products and custom products and implement them.
  • Lead Company’s programs to achieve extended reliability status and reliability scorecard targets.
  • Perform failure analysis and root cause studies at system, module, and material level. Identify and validate failure modes. Identify and validate corrective actions and implement them.
  • Develop failure analysis capabilities. Develop metrology capabilities.
  • Design, develop, test, launch and sustain PV Products (modules and electronics) for long-term reliability. Identify materials and materials combinations that contribute to long-term reliability of PV Products.
  • Develop plans for and subject materials, coupons, and modules to a broad set environmental and weathering conditions. Analyze and present results and devise the next course of action.
  • Work closely with design, product, process, test, and operations teams to ensure system and component reliability goals are met.
  • Design and develop new reliability test techniques, methods and procedures. Follow industry standard reliability protocols. Develop custom reliability plans where necessary.
  • Research structures and properties of materials and material interactions to ensure reliable operation of the solar modules for the warranty duration.
  • Develop or qualify new materials, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field with eight (8) years of direct experience in PV Reliability Engineering and four (4) years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

  • PhD in a related field is considered an asset.
  • Direct experience working in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
  • Deep understanding of materials and processes that contribute to long-term reliability of PV modules.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, test, launch, and sustain PV products for reliability.
  • Hands-on experience with solar panel manufacturing, accelerated testing, and failure analysis.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating PV reliability test equipment, PV failure analysis, and PV metrology equipment such as climate chambers, microscopy, spectroscopy, x-ray, ellipsometry, calorimetry, x-ray, XRD, SEM, DSC, TGA.
  • Experience testing solar components at material, module, and system levels for reliability and performance.
  • Experience of certification, compliance, and extended reliability testing of solar panels.
  • Highly skilled in one or more programming languages, lab tools, data analytics, and analysis.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
