Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Posted on: August 16, 2025
Who You Are We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in shaping the way we collect, process, and leverage data across our product and business. This role will report to Engineering but will work closely with our Head of Strategy and the BI team to enable world-class product analytics and insights. You’ll own the optimization and consolidation of our data pipelines—from event capture in the product, through SaaS tools like Segment and Hevo, all the way to delivering guaranteed clean, reliable data in Snowflake. Your work will empower our BI and Product Analytics team to deliver actionable insights via tools such as Sigma, and you’ll partner closely with Product Engineering teams to ensure event tracking is standardized, accurate, and efficient. We’re a remote-first company with regional hubs for in-person collaboration (Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Charleston, SC, Rochester, NY, Salt Lake City, UT, and London, UK). We are looking for a candidate who is located in one of our east coast states. (MA, NY, or SC) What You’ll Do
- Pipeline & Transformation: Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines and transformation processes from product through to Snowflake.
- Product Analytics Enablement: Collaborate with the Director of Strategy to improve product analytics, enabling deeper insights into product performance and user behavior.
- Data Capture Discipline: Partner with Product Engineering teams to educate, define, catalogue, and implement robust event-tracking standards and best practices.
- Data Quality & Governance: Ensure data integrity and accuracy throughout its lifecycle, minimizing tech sprawl and reducing complexity to drive the smallest needed footprint to do what we need, without over-engineering things.
- Tooling & Observability: Manage and optimize data flow using Segment, Hevo, and AWS-based systems; monitor and troubleshoot using observability tools like Datadog.
- Empower BI & Insights: Provide clean, dependable data feeds to the BI team, enabling rich dashboards and analytics in tools like Sigma.
- Educate & Advocate: Act as an internal champion for data principles, helping engineers understand good data modeling and event design.
- Hands-On Implementation: Be comfortable working anywhere in the stack from directly in product code to add or modify event triggers, through to configuring transformations and rules in Segment, Hevo or equivalent platforms and Snowflake.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven Experience: 5+ years in data engineering roles, with hands-on experience in building pipelines, event-driven architectures, and ETL processes.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong proficiency with SQL and modern data warehousing platforms (Snowflake experience essential).
- Experience with Segment, event-tracking systems, and behavioral analytics tooling.
- Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Kinesis) and data pipeline orchestration tools.
- Comfortable working within application codebases (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or similar) to implement event triggers and data capture.
- Analytics Enablement: Understanding of BI/visualization tools (Sigma, Looker, or similar).
- Observability: Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (Datadog or equivalent) to ensure data reliability and system health.
- Mindset & Soft Skills:
- Inquisitive and proactive—able to navigate ambiguity and find the right answers.
- Comfortable working independently and managing cross-team relationships.
- Passion for reducing complexity, driving standardization, and delivering clean data as a service.
- Strong communication skills, able to educate and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
