Position Title: Product Owner, Business‑Centric Delivery

Experience Level: Mid to Senior

Department: Program Management

Reports To: VP of Enterprise Portfolio (PMO)

Role Summary

The Product Owner, Business‑Centric Delivery is responsible for maximizing product value through deep understanding of business processes, client needs, and operational context. This role combines full Product Owner accountability with advanced Business Analysis capabilities, ensuring that backlog priorities, user stories, and delivery decisions are grounded in clear business intent.

This position is intentionally designed for professionals with a strong background in Business Analysis who also possess Product Owner experience. Success in this role depends on the ability to rapidly understand complex products, engage stakeholders effectively, and translate business needs into well‑defined, actionable backlog items that Agile teams can deliver with confidence.

The Product Owner serves as the authoritative voice on business requirements for the product, partnering closely with stakeholders, Product Management, and delivery teams to ensure solutions meet both client and organizational objectives.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Ownership and Value Delivery

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog to maximize business and client value
  • Ensure backlog alignment with strategic objectives, client needs, and operational priorities
  • Make informed trade‑off decisions based on business value, risk, and delivery capacity
  • Accept completed work based on clearly defined acceptance criteria and business intent

Business Analysis and Domain Expertise

  • Elicit, analyze, and document business and functional requirements using structured techniques
  • Develop and maintain business context documentation, including process flows and workflows
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for the product’s business domain
  • Rapidly ramp up on complex products and systems to provide informed guidance to delivery teams

Backlog and Story Management

  • Translate business needs into clear, testable user stories with defined acceptance criteria
  • Lead backlog refinement sessions focused on clarity, readiness, and traceability
  • Ensure backlog items are appropriately sized, prioritized, and ready for sprint execution
  • Maintain backlog health by minimizing ambiguity, rework, and story churn

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, and working sessions to gather requirements and feedback
  • Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and Agile delivery teams
  • Balance competing stakeholder needs while maintaining focus on product value
  • Communicate product priorities, scope, and decisions clearly and consistently

Agile Delivery Support

  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and PI events
  • Provide ongoing clarification to teams during sprint execution to reduce delivery risk
  • Partner with Scrum Masters, Product Management, and technical leads to remove blockers
  • Promote continuous improvement through feedback, inspection, and adaptation

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Business Analysis, Product Ownership, or a hybrid BA and PO role
  • Demonstrated strength in requirements elicitation, process analysis, and stakeholder facilitation
  • Proven ability to translate complex business needs into clear user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Experience supporting Agile delivery teams in a Product Owner or equivalent role
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and standard documentation tools
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Product Owner in a scaled Agile environment
  • Familiarity with SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban frameworks
  • Business Analysis certifications such as CBAP or PMI‑PBA
  • Product Owner certifications such as CSPO or SAFe POPM
  • Experience working with complex, regulated, or enterprise systems
  • Ability to interpret data and operational metrics to inform backlog decisions
