Chapman Tate Associates are working with an innovative and growing Software House that is looking for a Research Software Engineer to join their team.

The key requirement for this role is strong Python development experience. If you’re a confident Python developer who enjoys working on complex technical challenges, this could be an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering and cutting-edge research.

Experience with Linux and High-Performance Computing (HPC) would be highly desirable, but isn't essential.

🔧 What will you be doing?

You'll work closely with researchers, academics and technical teams, helping them develop, optimise and support software used across a range of research disciplines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• 🐍 Developing and supporting software primarily using Python
• 💻 Working within Linux-based environments
• ⚡ Supporting and optimising workloads on HPC platforms
• 🔬 Working directly with researchers to understand technical requirements
• 🛠️ Providing coding support, technical guidance and troubleshooting
• 🎓 Delivering technical training and coaching
• 📚 Creating technical documentation and development best practices
• 🤝 Collaborating with customers and internal technical teams
• 🚀 Keeping up to date with developments across Python, RSE, Linux and HPC

👨 💻 What are we looking for?

Essential:

• Strong commercial Python development experience
• Good software engineering fundamentals
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• A genuine interest in research computing and technical problem solving

Desirable:

• Linux experience
• HPC experience
• Experience with HPC clusters or job schedulers
• C/C++, Fortran or other research computing languages
• Experience within academic, scientific or research environments
• Cloud or large-scale computing experience
