Joining CardFlight means being part of a fast-moving company, collaborating closely with talented teammates, and having a direct impact on simplifying payments for small businesses nationwide.
About the Role
We’re currently looking for a Controller to take a key role on our United States location-neutral Finance team. This is a high-impact position for someone who wants to own, modernize, and scale the accounting function at a growing SaaS + payments company, while partnering closely with FP&A and our VP of Finance. In this role, you will have the opportunity to maintain, automate, and continuously improve CardFlight’s accounting operations. Our finance function supports complex payments software (SaaS) and payment facilitation (PayFac) business lines, requiring strong ownership of month-end close, reconciliations, revenue and expense integrity, and financial reporting. We are intentionally investing in AI-enabled tools, automation platforms, and modern accounting workflows to reduce manual effort and scale efficiently.
Responsibilities
Accounting Ownership & Month-End Close
- Own the full month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies
- Partner with FP&A to ensure department-level P&Ls and actuals align with forecasts and budgets
PayFac & Payments SaaS Accounting
- Own and continuously improve PayFac accounting and reconciliation processes across revenue, fees, settlements, and cash
- Reconcile multiple data sources (processors, banks, internal systems) and manage exception handling
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Risk, Product, and Engineering to ensure data integrity and scalable processes
- Automation, AI & Systems
- Implement and own accounting automation tools across close management, reconciliations, AP/AR, and reporting
- Identify opportunities to replace manual workflows with AI-enabled or rules-based automation
- Help build and maintain a modern finance tech stack that supports scale with minimal incremental headcount
Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Serve as primary owner for audit readiness and external audit support
- Coordinate tax filings, sales tax processes, and required compliance reporting
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation
Team & Capacity Planning
- Operate as a lean, independent accounting function while evaluating if/when additional support is needed
- Help assess the need for use of junior staff or overseas contractors as business complexity and volumes grow
Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and operational accounting best practices
- Experience in SaaS, fintech, payments, or PayFac environments (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated success implementing accounting automation or modernizing finance processes
- Comfort operating as a “hands-on” Controller in a lean team environment
- Strong analytical skills and ability to partner with FP&A on forecasts and reporting
- Proficiency with modern accounting systems and tools (e.g., QBO, NetSuite, AP automation tools, close software)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
Required Skills
- Ownership mindset — comfort taking full responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks
- Automation and systems curiosity — eagerness to replace manual processes with scalable tools
- Sound judgment and adaptability — ability to operate effectively in a fast-changing, high-growth environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience in SaaS, fintech, payments, or PayFac environments (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated success implementing accounting automation or modernizing finance processes
Pay range and compensation package
The target cash compensation range for this role is between $135,000-$165,000 annualized, consisting of an annualized base salary of $125,000 to $155,000 and an annualized target bonus of $10,000. In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for cash bonus and equity awards based on factors such as experience and performance.
Equal Opportunity Statement

Our objective is to ensure CardFlight team members are passionate about the growth of our company, supported in their personal growth and development, and connected to their colleagues.
